Past research has provided evidence on the consequences of perfectionism. One particular consequence of perfectionism is that of general health. Research has suggested that perfectionism type influences general mental health. Using the 3-cluster perspective of perfectionism by Slaney, Rice, Mobley, Trippi, & Ashby (2001), the current work investigates the mediating effects of drug use on the relationship between perfectionism clusters and general mental health, in the context of Conservation of Resources Theory (COR; Hobfoll, 1989). Adaptive perfectionists had higher general mental health compared to non-perfectionists and maladaptive perfectionists. However, the three clusters of perfectionism did not differ in drug use …

Mindful Resilience: Investigating Mindfulness And Resilience In Relation To A Broad Range Of Adversity, Aaron J. Halliday

This dissertation research sought to establish a complex understanding of the relationships between adversity severity, resiliency, mindfulness (and its mediating mechanism components: reperceiving, values clarification, exposure, cognitive-emotional-behvioural flexibility, and self-regulation). Through one cross-sectional (N = 914) and one repeated-measures study (Time 1 N = 1891; Time 2 N = 990) these relationships are investigated using online questionnaire batteries and assessed via multiple regression analysis. Initial findings demonstrated an effective, reliable, and valid assessment of adversity severity was developed and that this variable contributes to the experience of adversity and the resiliency process. The current study sought to develop a practical scale to measure workplace health climate in a way that has not previously been conceptualized – as a three-faceted approach from the employee perspective serving as an indicator of a healthy organization. The goal was to create a short, useable yet comprehensive scale that could translate into practical use by organizations and occupational health professionals planning workplace interventions. Objectives. This study addressed the questions, (1) To what degree are home health nurses satisfied in their job? (2) What variable ranks as the most important for home health nurses' satisfaction? and, (3) Is there a difference between job satisfaction of full time employment, part time, and per diem home health nurses?

Methods. The data were collected from six home health agencies in the Hampton Roads Area resulting in a sample of (N = 72). The McCloskey and Mueller Satisfaction Scale developed in 1990 (MMSS) was used to measure home health nurses' satisfaction.
