Professional Baseball In The Lower Rio Grande Valley Of South Texas, 1949-1961, Mark Lynn Paschall
Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA
Professional minor league baseball has been played in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of South Texas since 1910. Early leagues had trouble gaining a foothold in this region during the years prior to the Second World War primarily because all games were played in the intense heat of the South Texas summers.
With the installation of arc-lights at many of the local ball parks, following the post World War II era, to allow teams to play their games in the cooler hours of the evening, area entrepreneurs tried once again to bring the National Pastime to the Valley. Unable to …

The William H. Sheppard African Art Collection At Hampton Institute, Richard A. Singletary
Institute for the Humanities Theses
An examination of the William H. Sheppard African Art Collection at Hampton Institute located in Hampton, Virginia, reveals one of the finest examples of African art in existence today. This exhibit hails from the Kasai region located in Zaire (the Congo) of Africa. Since African art 1s expressive power derives from the functional value of the object, attention is focused on the socio-cultural use of the art from the Kuba tribe in the Kasai region. This discussion and investigation of objects in the collection precedes the appendices which includes complete chronological, alphabetical, and typological catalogues.

William Jennings Bryan: "Among Friends" In Arkansas, C. J. Hall
William Jennings Bryan: "Among Friends" In Arkansas, C. J. Hall
Honors Theses
Campaign style has changed dramatically since the turn of the century when William Jennings Bryan captured the political limelight. Bryan, a three time Democratic nominee for President, developed a new campaign tactic during the 1896 Presidential election; he continued to employ the new style for the remainder of his life. In 1896 Bryan's political organization could not compete with the well-financed Republican system, so the "Great Commoner" took his cause to the people. Presidential candidates were not supposed to actively campaign for the office, but Bryan broke the norm. After the 1896 election, Bryan continued to travel around the country …

Special attention is given the concept of "description" in regards to discussion of the resource category, history, and physical attributes of the sites. Evaluation and management suggestions are presented for this particular resource category. To aid in the process of identification of log cabin notching, a typology of notches is developed and presented within the context of the thesis.

Social Democracy In North America: A Canadian Example, Rodney Lavern Johnson

This thesis attempts to discuss a unique political phenomenon in North America - successful Canadian socialism. The first part discusses a workable definition of ideology and a theoretical approach to the explanation of legitimate ideological diversity. The second part of the paper explains the socio-economic and political milieu of Western Canadian society in the early twentieth century and the evolution of a consequent Anglophone socialist movement in response to this environment.
