Dr. Richard K. Lunt, folklorist and author of Northeast Folklore Volume X ("Jones Tracy, Tall Tale Teller from Mt. Desert Island"), is currently directing the Maine Folklife Survey. The project, a statewide effort made possible by grants from the Maine State Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Folk Arts Program of the National Endowment for the Arts, will assess the current status of folk and traditional arts and crafts in Maine. The interest is in the here and now, what traditional activities are still being performed.

Youpe! Youpe! Sur La Riviere!, Mr. And Mrs. Lawrence Parent Jan 1980

Youpe! Youpe! Sur La Riviere!, Mr. And Mrs. Lawrence Parent

Maine Song and Story Sampler

A home-made song from Quebec, Youpe! came to Maine the same way many other songs traveled through Maine and the eastern Canadian provinces: with lumbermen who crossed the border in both directions. It was especially popular among French-Canadian lumberjacks who adapted to their own use an earlier song called "Le p'tit bois d'lail."

The purpose of this Draft Supplement (SDEIS) to the Revised Draft Environmental Impact Statement (RDEIS) is to evaluate the environmental impacts of the Fish and Wildlife Mitigation Plan proposed for Implementation in conjunction with development of the Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes Project, Maine (Appendix K, RDEIS and Attachment 1 of the Report). Although the mitigation plan is intended to mitigate rather than impose adverse environmental impacts, the mitigation measures proposed do constitute a major Federal action requiring the development of a supplemental environmental impact statement pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969.
