Geographical Analysis Of The State-Administered Roads In Kentucky, 1920 To 1970, Sudesh Singla
Geographical Analysis Of The State-Administered Roads In Kentucky, 1920 To 1970, Sudesh Singla
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
There are several problems in the study of the growth and analysis of roads and highways. The first purpose of the study is to determine the stages of expansion in the State Highway System of Kentucky with respect to the density and the types of roads in Kentucky. A comparison has been made with other states of the nation with regards to percentage of roads paved and the total road mileage during the same stages.
The second purpose of the study is to determine the structure of growth, locational pattern of roads and major nodal points. The third purpose of …
Continuity Of A Traditional Social Pattern: The "Man-Patron" Relationship In Contemporary Northeast Brazil, Patricia Ellen Thorpe
Continuity Of A Traditional Social Pattern: The "Man-Patron" Relationship In Contemporary Northeast Brazil, Patricia Ellen Thorpe
Dissertations and Theses
Northeast Brazil is a region characterized by economic poverty and human misery. Poor ecological conditions contribute to the nature of the dilemma, but another factor in the apparent cultural stagnation of the Northeast, may be the persistence of values and social practices traditionally aligned with the colonial sugar plantation system. Thus, this thesis represents an examination of the continuity of a given pattern, the man/patron relationship. This pattern is a contemporary parallel to the master/slave relationship which was the key to understanding of the social system of the colonial period. An historical overview reveals the nature of the traditional system, …
A Comparison Of Selected Habitats Of Fallow Deer (Dama Dama) In The United States, William Fowler
A Comparison Of Selected Habitats Of Fallow Deer (Dama Dama) In The United States, William Fowler
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Many of the facets of fallow deer introduction to the United States have previously received considerable attention. Significant factors concerning naturalization have been studied in part, but no previous attempt has been made to investigate the range of this animal nor to compare the various habitats into which it has been introduced with its native land. This study was undertaken for that purpose. An attempt was made to investigate naturalization on the basis of herd growth in a given environment. Climate, vegetation and topography for certain study sites were compared with the same features in the native range. The results …
Special Report On Hunting
Special Reports
The Humane Society contends that the use of amateur hunters to reduce an overabundant deer herd does not conform with the principles of sound wildlife management. The Humane Society is strongly opposed to any method of culling herds of deer that does not deliver an instant and reasonably merciful death.
An Analysis Of Land Values In Bowling Green, Kentucky, James Frymark
An Analysis Of Land Values In Bowling Green, Kentucky, James Frymark
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Hypothesis 1. Land values and distance from the central business district are inversely related.
This hypothesis proved to be true for the city of Bowling Green. Although there was no pronounced peak of land values as found in many of the larger cities, there was found in the central business district the highest land values in the city. This particular theory is applicable to Bowling Green and probably other cities of the same size.
Hypothesis 2. Land values and distance from the nearest shopping center are inversely related.
Because the first attempt at testing this relationship was considered invalid for …

Special Report On Zoos
Special Reports
In many ways, The Humane Society has become the Ralph Nader of the zoo world, spurring into action the individuals or municipalities who own zoos, the staffs who operate them, the taxpayers who are in the end responsible for their existence, and the federal officials who are now required to ensure that they meet certain standards.

Review Of Spatial Organization: The Geographer's View Of The World By Ronald Abler, John S. Adams, And Peter Gould, S. M. Bhardwaj, Robert Stoddard
Review Of Spatial Organization: The Geographer's View Of The World By Ronald Abler, John S. Adams, And Peter Gould, S. M. Bhardwaj, Robert Stoddard
Department of Geography: Faculty Publications
Most introductory textbooks in geography are content-oriented, some pay lip service to basic concepts in geography, and still others are like tombstones conveying concepts and content of a bygone era. Abler, Adams and Gould have presented an introductory text that is rich in concepts, is rooted in contemporary scientific thinking, and conveys a dynamic, futuristic view of geography. The basic thrust in the book is "the circularly causal relationships between spatial structure and spatial processes." Geographers with a "lands-and-peoples" view of geography will be disappointed.

The Face Of Malone An Area Of Transition In Lincoln, Nebraska, David A. Montgomery, Frank A. Pratt, Rodney W. Schullig, Boniface N. Madubom, Darshan S. Kang
The Face Of Malone An Area Of Transition In Lincoln, Nebraska, David A. Montgomery, Frank A. Pratt, Rodney W. Schullig, Boniface N. Madubom, Darshan S. Kang
Department of Geography: Faculty Publications
This report concerns Malone, a problem area of Lincoln, Nebraska, that is undergoing considerable change as a result of external influences from the city and the university. In 1971, a graduate Seminar in Urban Geography devoted a semester to the spatial aspects of blight In cities and as a part of this course prepared short reports on specific aspects of Lincoln's example of a blighted zone. The point of departure for the field work was the conceptual framework of the transition zone as it was developed by Burgess in the 1920's and refined by others at a later time, especially …
A Finnish Riihi In Minnesota, Matti Kaups
A Finnish Riihi In Minnesota, Matti Kaups
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
A Finnish riihi in Minnesota is described and analyzed from the perspectives of form and function. The riihi or the combination grain drying, threshing, and winnowing barn, is one of the several folk architectural forms that immigrants from rural Finland built and used in settling sections of Minnesota. Since most of the log structures erected by the Finns are in a state of decay or already have vanished, it seems pertinent to preserve examples of the transplanted folk heritage in writing, and hopefully, in material form as well.
Fracture Pattern Analysis Employing Remote Sensing Techniques For Groundwater Movement With Environmental Applications: Preliminary Report, Bradford C. Hanson
Fracture Pattern Analysis Employing Remote Sensing Techniques For Groundwater Movement With Environmental Applications: Preliminary Report, Bradford C. Hanson
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
The study will consist of determining the relationship between fracture patterns and porosity-permeability changes in carbonate rocks with emphasis on groundwater movement. These porosity-permeability changes will be measured by relative groundwater movement, in the form of either springs, artesian wells, municipal supplies, or private wells. Relationships will be determined by plotting the positions of the measuring sites and correlating these sites with mapped fractures. Water yield is expected to be markedly greater for sites along fracture traces than for those located at random.
The Perception Of Sacred Space: The Case Of Utah And Other Sacred Places In Mormondom, Roger L. Henrie
The Perception Of Sacred Space: The Case Of Utah And Other Sacred Places In Mormondom, Roger L. Henrie
Theses and Dissertations
Sacred space is that part of the total environment which is perceived as sacred by individuals and religious groups. Sacred places may be conveniently divided into five generic categories: mystical, historical, and functional sacred places; and homelands, and places connected with the future fulfillment of prophecy. Sacred places of all five types are found in Mormondom. The temples, as mystical sacred places, were the most sacred. The Sacred Grove was the most sacred historical place. Utah was the most sacred present homeland. The future City of Zion, believed by many to be built in the future in Jackson County, Missouri, …

Towards An Identification And Investigation Of Parameters Relevant To The Evaluation Of Potential Sites For Outdoor Recreation, James Warren Tovell Wilgar
Towards An Identification And Investigation Of Parameters Relevant To The Evaluation Of Potential Sites For Outdoor Recreation, James Warren Tovell Wilgar
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
From the Resources for Tomorrow Conference held in 1961 came the recommendation for more research in the field of Recreation. With this challenge the thesis outlines various studies dealing with the classification and inventory of recreation lands. Because of the lack of correlation found to exist between the expected location of recreation sites based upon a capability classification and the observed locations of inventoried recreation sites, further analysis was undertaken. The results indicate that the potential of an outdoor rural recreation site is largely a function of historical, physical, accessibility, population, activity/facility and economic/political factors. These parameters, used in a …
The Journey To Worship: A Case Study In Waterloo, Ontario, Douglas Craig Witmer
The Journey To Worship: A Case Study In Waterloo, Ontario, Douglas Craig Witmer
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
This paper examines religious spatial interaction within an urban environment and as such contributes to the sparse literature on the Geography of Religion. It is the specific purpose to illustrate the journey to worship of households in the City of Waterloo, Ontario and to explain the spatial pattern utilizing the Principle of Least Effort.
It is discovered that if historical tension and dimensional tension are considered, one is able to predict the actual pattern of the journey to worship with seventy per cent accuracy. The fact that a large per cent of the sample attend the closest church of their …
