This dataset contains survey data of the U.S. adult population that includes self-reported heat-health symptoms, protective behaviors implemented during heat waves, and perceptions of how a heat wave would affect personal health and the health of others. Temperature estimates of what participants may have experienced the summer prior to the survey are included at the county level. Demographic variables and spatial scales by region, state, and county are also included.

TSOS Interview Gallery

Steve and Anita Canfield helped the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Turkey. They helped send blankets, coats, and washing machines to Syrian refugees. They were assigned to Frankfurt to assess refugee camps, soup kitchens, warehouses, and immigrant communities. The couple visited refugee camps and soup kitchens all over Europe to determine what was needed most by refugees.

The Canfields established the Friendship Center in Rome. The center offers classes in Italian, English, Italian, and a Red Cross course. It also has a gospel choir, a popular activity for primarily African refugees. The LDS Church has plans to …

African Savanna Vegetation Model, Christoffer Axelsson Jun 2018

African Savanna Vegetation Model, Christoffer Axelsson

Graduate Student Datasets and Models

The project aimed at creating a model that can simulate the effect of environmental factors on trees and grasses in an African savanna landscape. It enables simulating the growth of woody and herbaceous vegetation in an African savanna landscape, where the user can define the environmental conditions. Input to the model includes:

  • Monthly precipitation
  • Fire regime
  • Grazing pressure
  • Soil type
  • Slope
  • Attributes of the woody species, such as maximum crown size and sensitivity to light conditions, drought, and fire.

Landsat Sentinel Registration Source Codes: Linux, Lin Yan, David P. Roy Apr 2018

Landsat Sentinel Registration Source Codes: Linux, Lin Yan, David P. Roy

Landsat Sentinel Registration Source Codes

  • LSReg is open-source software (coded in C) for precise automatic registration of Landsat-8 (L8) Collection-1 and Sentinel-2 (S2) Level 1C products, including L8S2, S2S2 and L8L8.
  • Version 2.0 is a Linux version. The main download includes the source codes and manual. The “Additional Files” include the test data and the outputs generated from the test data by LSReg 2.0.
  • Major functionalities of the software:
    • Flexibility in handling input/output images resolutions and spatial coverages.
    • Image registration supporting translation, affine and 2nd order polynomial transformations.
    • Classic implementation of least-squares matching (LSM) with up to 0.02 pixel matching accuracy on medium-spatial-resolution optical-wavelength remote …

This dataset contains model estimates of the proportion of the adult population who report having supplies at home to use in case of a disaster, at the state level and Core-Based Statistical Area (CBSA) level in the U.S.

“state_2015_table.csv” contains estimated proportion of adults (18+) who have set aside supplies at home in case of a disaster at the state level for 2015. “cbsa_2015_table.csv” contains estimated proportion of adults (18+) who have set aside supplies at home in case of a disaster at the Core-Based Statistical Area level for 2015.

Data: Pre-Fire Disturbance History Modulates Relationships Between Ground Cover And Post-Fire Conifer Regeneration, Nathan Gill, Dan Jarvis, Tom Veblen, John Rogan, Dominik Kulakowski

Student Works

Understory vegetation and ground cover drive many important ecosystem processes, including tree seedling regeneration. The exact effect of ground cover on tree seedling establishment, survival, and growth depends on biophysical context. In subalpine forests, this context is largely determined by disturbances such as beetle outbreak, blowdown, and fire. Compounded disturbances that overlap in short succession can alter stand properties and trajectories in ways that are not predictable from the additive impact of individual disturbances. The aim of this study is to examine how compounded Dendroctonus rufipennis (spruce beetle; SB) outbreak followed by fire and compounded wind blowdown followed by fire …
