A Special Grand Jury was impanelled in 2002-2003 to investigate and make recommendations concerning the Diocesan sexual abuse scandal in Rockville Centre. The Grand Jury issued a report after the presentation by myself and co-counsel in the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office. The Report describes the history of the sexual abuse problem in the Diocese as well as the ensuing coverup. Many of the recommendations were legislatively adopted in Albany.

Domestic Violence At The Top Of New England: Law Enforcement Incident Reports From Aroostook County, Maine, Carolyn Ball, Kenneth Nichols

New England Journal of Public Policy

Although domestic violence is an issue regularly discussed in magazines, newspapers, and elsewhere, many law enforcement agencies including many in New England do not have the capacity to track these incidents and the relationship between the victim and the offender. Through an analysis of law enforcement data from Maine’s Aroostook County, in 1997 and 1998, this article analyzes the problem of domestic violence in rural, northern Maine from a law enforcement perspective. About one-third of custodial mothers choose not to pursue a child support award even though It can be a significant source of Income. This contribution for the “Law, Ethics, and Gender in Medicine” column in the Journal of Gender Specific Medicine interrogates the understanding of gender itself, at a time when transgender and intersex issues were just beginning to “come out” in both popular culture and case law. Against this background, the column explores the roles that physicians have played in such gender contests and considers how evolving medical attitudes can help achieve reform.
