Building Financial Peace: A Conflict Resolution Framework For Money Arguments, Sarah D. Asebedo Dec 2016

Building Financial Peace: A Conflict Resolution Framework For Money Arguments, Sarah D. Asebedo

Journal of Financial Therapy

This paper presents a well-known and highly utilized conflict resolution framework from the mediation profession and demonstrates how to apply this framework to money arguments. While conflict resolution skills have been identified as important to communication within the financial planning context, an integrated conflict resolution framework has yet to be recognized and understood within the financial planning literature. This paper aims to fill this gap. Ultimately, both mental health professionals and financial planners can benefit from an interdisciplinary approach to resolving money arguments by combining training in personal financial strategies and conflict resolution principles.

Consideration Of Financial Satisfaction: What Consumers Know, Feel And Do From A Financial Perspective, Ann Sanders Woodyard, Cliff A. Robb Dec 2016

Consideration Of Financial Satisfaction: What Consumers Know, Feel And Do From A Financial Perspective, Ann Sanders Woodyard, Cliff A. Robb

Journal of Financial Therapy

Financial satisfaction has long been considered an important component to consumer life satisfaction and well-being. Using data from the 2012 National Financial Capability Study (NFCS), financial satisfaction is explored in the context of personal characteristics related to financial knowledge (both objective and subjective) as well as self-reported financial behaviors. Ordinary Least Squares Regression is applied to a predictive model of financial satisfaction, and results indicate that measures associated with what people do (behaviors related to recommended practice) and how they feel (subjective knowledge) may be more salient factors to consider with regard to satisfaction than measures related to what individuals …

Money And Emerging Adults: A Glimpse Into The Lives Of College Couples’ Financial Management Practices, Jennifer K. Rea, Virginia S. Zuiker, Tai J. Mendenhall

Being in a romantic relationship is a transition that many college students enter while earning a college degree. Twenty-four students between the ages of 19 to 29 years old who self-identified as being in a committed relationship participated in this study. They completed an online survey that included both quantitative and qualitative (open-ended) questions pertaining to money management practices. Key findings suggest that participants believe in communicating about their individual and combined finances so as to prevent or solve financial challenges. They also discussed the importance of having similar perspectives about financial values within their relationship. Financial therapists, counselors, and …

Shamans, Wives, Families: An Isoseño Case Considered Using Turner On Kayapo Dominance And Beauty, Kathleen B. Lowrey Dec 2016

Shamans, Wives, Families: An Isoseño Case Considered Using Turner On Kayapo Dominance And Beauty, Kathleen B. Lowrey

Tipití: Journal of the Society for the Anthropology of Lowland South America

In this essay I describe what I have seen elapse over twenty years in the lives (and sometimes deaths) of two shamans and their respective wives in Isoso, an indigenous community of Guarani-speaking people in the Bolivian Chaco. These shamans’ two different kinds of shamanic practice, their two different sorts of marriage, and the two different life-trajectories of their wives resonate with the dual nature of Isoso itself and its historical constitution. The reproduction of a hierarchical Arawakan way of life through feminine submission to a Guarani “egalitarianism” of masculine dominance has been, I suspect, a dynamic of long standing …

Essai De Typologie Des Familles Éclatées Dans L’Oeuvre Romanesque De Calixthe Beyala, Clémentine Mansiantima Nzimbu Dec 2016

Essai De Typologie Des Familles Éclatées Dans L’Oeuvre Romanesque De Calixthe Beyala, Clémentine Mansiantima Nzimbu

Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature

In Calixthe Beyala’s novels, the narrators are in search of their own identity due to traumas experienced in broken families. The expression broken or shattered family (famille éclatée) is used in a broad way, pertaining to principles and responsibilities of marriage, particularly with children. The abandonment of a spouse, regardless of the motive, wounds the family unit. This study uses eight novels to examine the various configurations of families in which the place of biological parents is called into question. This study also shows that abandoned children, in the works of Beyala, cope with the absence of a parent.

Policy Brief No. 26 - The Dynamics Of First Nations Migration Shaped By Socio-Economic Inequalities, Marilyn Amorevieta-Gentil, Robert Bourbeau, Norbert Robitaille Nov 2016

Policy Brief No. 26 - The Dynamics Of First Nations Migration Shaped By Socio-Economic Inequalities, Marilyn Amorevieta-Gentil, Robert Bourbeau, Norbert Robitaille

Population Change and Lifecourse Strategic Knowledge Cluster Research/Policy Brief

Migration by First Nations people (both Registered and non-registered Indians) reflects inequalities between First Nation communities, and also between First Nations and the non-Aboriginal Canadian population, in terms of its nature, its intensity and its direction. Residential mobility, within the same community or urban centre, is the commonest form of migration among First Nations, while inter-provincial and international migration concerns a small minority of cases. The net effect of the migratory flows of Registered Indians is movement towards reserves rather than to other rural or urban areas. Improvement in living conditions and the feeling of belonging to a community are …

Dossier De Politique No. 26 - Les Inégalités Socioéconomiques Façonnent Les Dynamiques Migratoires Des Premières Nations, Marilyn Amorevieta-Gentil, Robert Bourbeau, Norbert Robitaille Nov 2016

Dossier De Politique No. 26 - Les Inégalités Socioéconomiques Façonnent Les Dynamiques Migratoires Des Premières Nations, Marilyn Amorevieta-Gentil, Robert Bourbeau, Norbert Robitaille

Population Change and Lifecourse Strategic Knowledge Cluster Research/Policy Brief
