The Doctoral Comprehensive Examination In Counselor Education: Faculty Members’ Perception Of Its Purposes, Katie Kostohryz

This research focused on faculty members’ perceptions of the comprehensive examination in counselor education doctoral programs. A between-within repeated measure analysis of variance was computed to evaluate significant differences in perceptions of faculty toward five stated purposes of the comprehensive examination related to their current format of the comprehensive examination. Findings showed significant differences in perceptions within the five stated purposes of the comprehensive examination. There was no significant mean difference between faculty’s perceptions of the stated purposes and the current format of the comprehensive examination; however, a significant interaction was found between the format and purposes of the exam. …

This DMin project addressed the problem of the absence of a viable training model to equip graduates of EQEB (Escuela Quiteña de Estudios Biblicos) for self-sustaining ministry. Based upon a theology of vocation, the project implemented and evaluated the inclusion of a technical-skills component to EQEB’s current seminary training. The project followed the integration of sixteen EQEB students in the vocational program implemented during the 2015-2016 school year. Qualitative research data gathered from five group interviews with these students, my own field notes, and a faculty interview provided the substance upon which I based the project´s findings. This study developed the Statistics Assessment of Graduate Students (SAGS) instrument, and established its preliminary item characteristics, reliability, and validity evidence. Even though there are limited number of assessments available for measuring different aspects of statistical cognition, these previously available assessments have numerous limitations. The SAGS instrument was developed using Rasch modeling approach to create a new measure of statistical research methodology knowledge of graduate students in education and other behavioral and social sciences. Instructing students on how to use the library and the databases in one setting, especially when there is only 50 minutes, can be extremely overwhelming for the students and instructor. This session covered tips that can be used in the interview process with the professor, creating a flipped classroom or blended instruction opportunities to enhance the learning process ( including pre or post-session), as well as demonstrating guides for assisting students in database searching techniques. Finally, the session ended with ways to get buy-in from professors about tutorials and guides used outside the lessons.

This study will explore the relationship between LGBTQ+ identifying students’ expectations of and experiences with allies, and their perceptions of campus climate. LGBTQ+ ally training programs and visibility of LGBTQ+ allies contribute to both campus climate and LGBTQ+ students’ perceptions of that climate, leading to more positive and healthy college experiences. However, it is not clear that current practice in training and educating allies truly reflects the needs of LGBTQ+ identifying students.

The purpose of this qualitative, phenomenological research study was to explore continuing education practices within the health care industry, specifically mental health care, with a focus on psychiatric clinicians’ perspectives on continuing education programming in rural Maine. For the purposes of this research study, mental health care was inclusive of behavioral health care and substance abuse treatment. This study examined the potential relationship of accessible hands-on science learning experiences to the development of positive beliefs concerning one’s capacity to function in the sciences and motivation to consider science as a college major and career. Item exposure provides an opportunity for examinees to have knowledge of particular test items in advance of their administration. Research has demonstrated that although subdomain information may provide no added value beyond the total score, in some contexts such information is of utility to particular demographic subgroups (Sinharay & Haberman, 2014). However, it is argued that the utility of reporting subscores for an individual should not be based on one’s manifest characteristics (e.g., gender or ethnicity), but rather on individual needs for diagnostic information, which is driven by multidimensionality in subdomain scores. This article introduces the American Association of Colleges and University’s (AAC& U) Value Rubrics to smaller colleges and describes how the Value Rubrics (2009) offered free to download from the AAC&U website may be used as effective assessment tools in academic and information literacy courses and programs on their campuses. This article also describe why and how a small Kansas college has proceeded to use the AAC&U Value Rubrics alongside the SAILS pre- and post-test to assess a for-credit information literacy course offered to undergraduate students.

The critique invites a reconsideration and cultural analysis of some of the dominant discourses and perceptions of technology, young adolescence, and the study of motivation.
