Aspiring Higher: The Role Of Objective Manager-Employee Work Values Fit In Employee Brand Movement Intentions, Brian P. Reschke, Joseph Olsen, John B. Bingham

Multinational corporations attend to the unique challenge of managing employee mobility across various brands. While high tenure and high organizational commitment have been shown to increase retention attitudes, the organizational behavior literature has been notably silent regarding the factors contributing to employees’ aspirations to work in ‘bigger and better’ brands. Brand movement intentions of employees of a large, international professional services corporation were studied. Findings support the introduction of an objective measure of manager-employee work value fit and suggest employee brand movement is propelled in part by need for prestige.

Evaluating The Impact Of Hit Resources On Patient Welfare: Evidence For The Arra, Evan S. Thomas, Mark Showalter

Using differencing, OLS, and probit modeling techniques, demographic and performance information for more than 1,600 U.S. hospitals was used to test whether Electronic Medical Record (EMR) usage had any effect on both outcomes and processes of patient care. The findings showed that EMR use did not have a significant impact on patient mortality rates, 30-day readmission rates, or clinical procedures in treating patients suffering from Acute Myocardial Infarctions (AMI). Additional research into the correlation between EMR usage and average Medicare reimbursement rates found that healthcare facilities using an EMR received lower reimbursements on average than those hospitals using a paper-based …

Much of the current debate surrounding health care is centered on the perception that the socio-economically disadvantaged are less healthy than their richer counterparts. This idea, known as the income-health gradient, has been studied heavily in the academic literature and this poster is an update of one such study conducted by Case et al. in 2002. In their study, the researchers found that those with lower incomes also have lower self-reported health scores, and that this relationship not only persists, but actually worsens, as people get older. This book examines the effects of work requirements imposed by welfare reform on low-income women and their families. The authors pay particular attention to the nature of work—whether it is stable or unstable, the number of hours worked in a week and the regularity and flexibility of work schedules. They also show how these factors make it more difficult for low-income women to balance their work and family requirements.

The way one thinks about changes in college costs and college prices depends on where one sits. In particular, a close-up view focused exclusively on colleges and universities will lead to quite different conclusions than an aerial view that places colleges and universities in a broader economy-wide perspective. The Advantage Sharing Program, or ASP, is a multi-county collaboration comprising Greene, Miami and Montgomery Counties. The program’s purpose is to provide additional dollars to economic and workforce projects that have been developed by local governments. The projects submitted by local governments address the needs of businesses that are locating, expanding or sustaining operations. ASP provides to local officials a source of additional funding to meet business needs. Local governments apply for funds after their best offer does not secure a development agreement. This funding does not replace incentives typically offered by local governments. Requests for funding are made to …

Economic Impact Analysis Of School Facility Construction, Wright State University, Center For Urban And Public Affairs

In 2009, Huber Heights City Schools contracted with the Center for Urban & Public Affairs (CUPA) to conduct the economic impact analysis of new school construction on the local economy. For this study, CUPA used IMPLAN, a tool for economic impact assessment to estimate the direct, indirect, and induced impacts of the $159.1 million1 school facility construction project on the local (zip code 45424) and the regional economy (Montgomery, Greene, and Miami counties). It should be noted that these impacts are estimated for the project as a whole and not estimated for each year of the 32‐month construction period.

These papers present the economic issues debates that arise when natural disasters strike. Better mechanisms for coping with disasters through better preparation and mitigation efforts are addressed. The authors discuss insurance and risk and suggest long-term insurance arrangements and government policy action.
