Some Regional Economic Perspectives On Covid-19 Impacts, Paul A. Coomes
Institute for the Study of Free Enterprise Working Papers
It has been about eight months since the Covid-19 pandemic began sweeping across America, causing the well-known health care emergency, and major economic and fiscal distortions. Presumably, we are in the last stages of the damage, as activity has picked up in most realms of daily life. However, recovery problems linger in many areas, including air travel, cruises, hotels, conventions, concerts, and schools. While not over, enough information has emerged to start documenting the regional economic impacts around Kentucky. This note examines the latest public data to study the apparent economic and fiscal damage related to Covid responses, public and …

Impacts Of Covid-19 On Nepalese Economy, Satis Devkota
Economics & Management Publications
Even though Nepal reported the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in late January 2020, Nepal was one of the least affected countries in South Asia until the end of April 2020. Lockdown and social distancing were implemented from the very beginning and people also contributed voluntarily with certain exceptions to that government’s efforts. That has a positive effect on flattening the curves of COVID-19 affected people and the related death rates in Nepal. However, the macroeconomic consequences of the pandemic are pretty high for a remittance based small economy. This hardship is further escalated when the excessive inflow of the …

The purpose of this thesis is to determine the extent to which it is economically advantageous for a nation to host …

Economic Impact Of Downstream Gas Development In West Virginia, Eric Bowen
Bureau of Business & Economic Research
Downstream gas development has the potential to provide significant economic value if West Virginia can capture this development within its borders. In this report, we explore the potential impact of downstream natural gas industries on the West Virginia economy. To estimate the economic impact of downstream natural gas development, we take a two-pronged approach. First, we identify those industries nationally that require large amounts of natural gas in their production process. We then choose three of these industries that have the greatest potential for development within West Virginia. Second, we estimate the economic impact of a typical establishment in each …

The Impact Of The New York City Marathon On Hotel Demand, Joshua Martin, Joshua Hall
Faculty & Staff Scholarship
Daily hotel data are employed, along with information on prices, revenue, demand and hotel occupancy, to analyze part of the local economic impact of the annual New York City (NYC) Marathon. As the largest competitive race in the world, the marathon attracts domestic and international competitors and spectators. The cancellation of the 2012 marathon due to Hurricane Sandy was estimated to lead to an increase of 4000 hotel nights as well as a 10% increase in the average daily room rate. Taken together, this is associated with a USD 3 million increase in hotel revenue. The results suggest a significantly …
