As the global economy has become interconnected, international trade has become a common medium for developing and developed countries to interact. However, there is a gap in the scholarly literature when considering the effects of export diversification. The goal of this dissertation is to study and identify the relationship between export concentration and economic development in developing countries. Data were collected from the International Monetary Fund World Bank for quantitative analysis. Using mediator analysis and these mediators included export volatility (export instability), net barter (terms of trade), and current account balance (competitiveness). Mexico’s education system ranks among the lowest in terms of quality and achievement levels. Given the importance of education for a country’s economic development, it is crucial to understand how improvements in Mexico’s education quality can result in economic growth for the country. When delivered well, education is key to addressing a host of individual and societal ills, from poverty and disease to crime and poor voter engagement. India has demonstrated considerable progress in improving various aspects of its primary education system, including infrastructure and buildings, teacher-student ratios, and school enrollment. However, student learning outcomes remain consistently low across the country. As suggested by its title, this volume examines an extensive range of issues related to economic development. There are papers on governance and democracy; ethics, values and corruption; regulation and privatization; as well as trade liberalization and the Uruguay Round. Along the way, the role of population and the characteristics of agricultural development are also evaluated. Overall, the discussion ranges far beyond the economics of development to include its political and cultural connections. The papers were prepared for a conference organized by the Asian Development Bank and held in Mania in late 1994.
