Victimization Among Jail Inmates: Differences In Type, Timing, Gender, And Effects On Recidivism, Nicky Dalbir

Important limitations exist in our understanding of prior abuse among incarcerated individuals including whether there are important differences in the type (e.g., physical versus sexual victimization) and timing (e.g., childhood versus adulthood victimization) of abuse, as well as whether and how these problems are distributed among individuals incarcerated in jails. The violence seen at the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021 has sparked concern at the threat of domestic violent extremism (DVE) within the United States. Over 700 individuals have been federally charged in connection with the events of January 6 including almost 100 women. Women’s involvement in DVE is underestimated and understudied. This project utilized a corpus of over 1,000 court documents to content code variables relating to violence and DVE affiliation for the individuals who have been federally charged in relation to January 6th.
