Development And Evaluation Of A Brief, Bystander Bullying Intervention For Low-Income, Ethnically-Blended Middle Schools, Molly Elizabeth Moran

This dissertation includes three individual articles that examine a brief bystander bullying intervention (STAC) culturally adapted for low-income, ethnically-blended middle schools. Chapter One provides a brief introduction to the three articles that comprise this dissertation, the theoretical framework, and the rationale and purpose of this dissertation. Chapter Two includes a mixed-method study examining the development of the culturally adapted intervention. Qualitative data was used to inform the intervention adaptations. Quantitative data provides preliminary support for the cultural validity of the adapted intervention. Substance Use And Bullying Intervention Among High School Students, April Denise Watts

Comprised of three individual articles, this article-based dissertation investigates the relationship between bullying and substance use among high school students. Chapter One provides an overview of the dissertation’s purpose along with a discussion of the theoretical framework and development of the studies comprising the dissertation. Chapter Two examines the relationship between bullying victimization and substance use among high school students. Findings demonstrate that students who reported bullying victimization reported higher levels of alcohol and illicit drug use, but not marijuana use. Comprised of three individual articles, this article-based dissertation represents different aspects of a study involving a program designed to increase retention among master’s level Counselor Education (CE) students. Chapter One provides an overview of the dissertation’s purpose along with a discussion of how the studies comprising the dissertation extend the current literature on student retention in CE programs.
