Savannah Pierce, a senior Christian studies major from Dover, Ark., was crowned Ouachita Baptist University’s 2022 Homecoming Queen during a pregame ceremony at Cliff Harris Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 8. Pierce represented the Ouachita marching band. A member of the Ouachita marching band color guard and Tri Chi women’s social club, Pierce is a resident assistant and a Kappa Chi men’s social club little sis.

Five Ouachita Baptist University graduates received the university’s Alumni Milestone Award on Saturday, Oct. 8. Based on their professional achievements, community service and dedication to their alma mater, the honorees were selected by a committee of Ouachita faculty and staff and Dr. Ben Sells, Ouachita president.

“Exemplary graduates are nominated every year for the Alumni Milestone Award,” Sells said. “Our goal is to select inductees who, by the way they live their lives, represent our amazing alumni and demonstrate the qualities that make Ouachita, Ouachita.”

Ten Ouachita alumni received the university’s Alumni Milestone Award in conjunction with Ouachita’s Homecoming celebration Sept. 30-Oct. 2. Based on their professional achievements, community service and dedication to their alma mater, they were chosen by a committee of Ouachita faculty and staff and Ouachita President Ben Sells.

Ouachita Baptist University’s 2020 production of Tiger Tunes REWIND has won a national Pivot Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education’s Affiliated Student Advancement Program (CASE ASAP).

The Pivot Award was introduced by CASE ASAP this year to acknowledge changes made to programming during the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s one of six national awards categories that recognize students, organizations and schools for achievement in college or university advancement. Other universities honored in the Pivot category include Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the University of California, Los Angeles.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Ouachita Student Foundation (OSF) has received the Council for Advancement and Support of Education’s Affiliated Student Advancement Program (CASE ASAP) District 4 Pivot Award for its work to create Tiger Tunes REWIND in order to continue to raise money for student scholarships in the 2020-2021 academic year. The Pivot Award is a new category introduced by CASE ASAP this year to acknowledge changes made to programming during the COVID-19 pandemic; OSF’s District 4 win puts Tunes REWIND in the running for the national Pivot Award.

Back To Africa In The 21st Century: The Cultural Reconnection Experiences Of African American Women, Marcia Tate Arunga

Antioch University Dissertations & Theses

The purpose of this study is to examine the lived experiences of 18 African American women who went to Kenya, East Africa as part of a Cultural Reconnection delegation. A qualitative narrative inquiry method was used for data collection. This was an optimal approach to honoring the authentic voices of African American women. Eighteen African American women shared their stories, revelations, feelings and thoughts on reconnecting in their ancestral homeland of Africa. The literature discussed includes diasporic returns as a subject of study, barriers to the return including the causes of historic trauma, and how Black women as culture bearers …

Honoring its seventh class of Ouachita Alumni Milestone Awards recipients, Ouachita Baptist University recognized outstanding graduates from the classes of 1966, 1976, 1986, 1996 and 2006 at halftime of the Homecoming football game Oct. 15.
