This dissertation applied the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) model variables of attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, along with the variable of fear to explain individuals’ behavioral intentions to vape. Previous studies have explored the social appeal, intrigue, and potential consequences of vaping among adolescent and college student populations. However, these past studies have largely relied upon focus groups and self-reported data conducted among samples of teen, adolescent, and college student populations. However, most behavioral scientists do not work in the area of pandemics given the infrequency of their occurrences. Introduction: Developments in technology, such as the popularity of mobile devices and social media outlets, have enhanced the ability of individuals to communicate. Currently, search engines allow for easy exploration of information related to every topic of interest. Our study purpose was to evaluate the impact of technological and social collaborations on sexual and reproductive health knowledge (SRHK).

Methods: A 50-item survey instrument, integrating factors of sociodemographics, number/type of social collaborations, technological communication use, and SRHK, was developed to assess familiarity with sexual and reproductive health perceptions. Chronic disease has become one of the leading causes of death in the United States. The purpose of this project is to understand the motivation behind health behaviors that individuals engage in to prevent, manage, or treat chronic diseases. By simultaneously examining chronic disease and fitness trackers through the Health Belief Model and The Diffusion of Innovations Theory, external factors are exposed that influence perceptions and lead to purchase decisions. Incorporating the cost-benefit analysis of the devices confirms that associated risks and questions of accuracy do not prevent product purchases or the belief that it can improve health.
