Everyone now knows what the "BS" in the "BCS" stands for but there seems to be some doubt remaining about the "C." Some suggest "computer," some say "compound," some say it is a redundant statement of the "S." Whatever it is, several other things are now clear.

Narrative Analysis Of Sexual Etiquette In Teenage Magazines, Ana C. Garner, Helen M. Sterk, Shawn Adams
Narrative Analysis Of Sexual Etiquette In Teenage Magazines, Ana C. Garner, Helen M. Sterk, Shawn Adams
College of Communication Faculty Research and Publications
Expanding on existing research on women's magazines, this essay examines the sexual etiquette developed in advice columns in magazines popular among teenage women. Over a span of 20 years, the advice has changed very little. Serving the rhetorical function of field guides and training manuals, teen magazines limit women's sociality and sexuality within narrowly defined heterosexual norms and practices. The rhetoric of sexual etiquette encourages young women to be sex objects and teachers of interpersonal communication rather than lovers, friends, and partners. Young women are being taught to subordinate self for others and to be contained.
New Communication Technologies, Organizational Culture, And The Creation Of Innovative Learning Environments, Denise Scott
New Communication Technologies, Organizational Culture, And The Creation Of Innovative Learning Environments, Denise Scott
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Today's organizations face an economic climate that is globalizing, increasing customer demands for products and services that meet their unique needs and the fast pace of technological developments. Organizations require the effective use of new communication technologies as a means of sharing information and expanding capacity for innovation. The main question for this research is: When new communication technologies are introduced into organizations, how do they work together with existing cultural assumptions to produce an innovative, learning environment within the organization? The research design involves conducting moderately structured interviews with organizational leaders in four diverse organizations: Ingram Book Company, Service …

Unfortunately for those whose businesses rely on the Internet, an increasing amount of legal conflict is also arising in reaction to this new business medium. As attorneys and the courts attempt to sort out the Internet’s legal status quo, both are considering such pressing substantive issues as electronic contracts, privacy, trademark, copyright, defamation, computer crimes, censorship, and taxation. It is imperative that information system professionals become aware of how evolving Internet law will affect the medium they are charged with administrating. An informed IS community is also much more capable of mounting legal and political challenges to law that might …

College And Pro Athletes: Crime And Punishment, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
There have been headlines over the past week about crime statistics from the National Football League. Jeff Benedict and Don Yaeger in their new book, Pros and Cons: The Criminals Who Play in the NFL, claim that one in five (21%) of all the players in the NFL have been charged with at least one serious crime. Among these are two murders, seven rape charges, 45 counts of domestic violence and 42 charges of assault. What is worse, say Yaeger and Benedict, the National Football League continues to employ these kinds of people at huge salaries and the NFL seems …
