When parents communicate with their youth on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) issues, they have a greater influence on youth SRH behaviors. But parents’ lack of knowledge of SRH, low self-efficacy in engaging young people, and unfavorable social norms about communication and youth access to SRH information are barriers to open intergenerational communication. Breakthrough RESEARCH conducted a qualitative study in Niger and Côte d’Ivoire to better understand the specific barriers to intergenerational communication about SRH, and ways in which adult allies can be supported to engage young people and encourage them to lead a healthy life. Merci Mon Héros (MMH) est une campagne médiatique qui catalyse les jeunes en tant que co-leaders pour améliorer la communication intergénérationnelle et les résultats des jeunes en matière de planification familiale et de santé reproductive. Le projet Breakthrough RESEARCH a été chargé d'évaluer la campagne MMH. Cette note met en évidence d'importantes conclusions d'évaluation et des recommandations pour le renforcement de la communication intergénérationnelle dans deux lieux prioritaires : Niamey, au Niger et Abidjan, en Côte d'Ivoire.

Social and behavior change (SBC) interventions are considered an essential part of malaria prevention and treatment interventions, yet gaps in information on the cost and impact of SBC mean decisionmakers have underappreciated the value of SBC for contributing to improved health outcomes. To address this issue, Breakthrough RESEARCH has leveraged evidence from 112 studies on the impact of SBC interventions on malaria health behaviors and 70 studies on general SBC intervention costs to model the cost-effectiveness of SBC programming for malaria in the Business Case for Investing in Social and Behavior Change for Malaria.
