Emotions play a key role in human communication and public presentations. Human emotions are usually expressed through multiple modalities. Therefore, exploring multimodal emotions and their coherence is of great value for understanding emotional expressions in presentations and improving presentation skills. However, manually watching and studying presentation videos is often tedious and time-consuming. There is a lack of tool support to help conduct an efficient and in-depth multi-level analysis. Thus, in this paper, we introduce EmoCo, an interactive visual analytics system to facilitate efficient analysis of emotion coherence across facial, text, and audio modalities in presentation videos. This paper examined whether positive and negative emotional displays influenced negotiation outcomes (value creation and claiming) differentially for female and male negotiators. Also considered was how negotiation dyad gender composition might affect value creation and claiming. I examined recordings from a negotiation exercise (N = 194). Results revealed that when females expressed negative emotions significantly reduced value claiming on the part of those female negotiators. However, the effects of expressing positive emotions on negotiation outcomes did not vary by negotiator gender. Emotional Disclosure On Social Networking Sites: The Role Of Network Structure And Psychological Needs, Han Lin, William Tov, Lin Qiu

We conducted three studies to understand how online emotional disclosure is influenced by social network structure on Facebook. Results showed that emotional disclosure was associated with both the density and size of users’ personal networks. Facebook users with denser networks disclosed more positive and negative emotions, and the relation between network density and emotional disclosure was mediated by stronger need for emotional expression. Facebook users with larger networks on Facebook disclosed more positive emotions, and the relation between network size and emotional disclosure was mediated by a stronger need for impression management. Integrated Crisis Mapping: Towards A Publics-Based, Emotion-Driven Conceptualization In Crisis Communication, Yan Jin, Augustine Pang, Glen T. Cameron

Extending current situation-based conceptualizations of crisis response, this paper develops a more generic and systemic approach tounderstanding the role of emotions in crisis situations. Taking an integrated approach, the authors propose a public-based, emotion-drivenperspective to crisis communication modeling, mapping different crisistypes, and underpinning them with two continua, the organization’s involvement with the crisis issue and primary public’s coping strategy. Thepaper further argues that the appropriate crisis response and tools tomanage a crisis should address the full range of emotions for optimal effectiveness at both strategic and tactical levels.
