The hub of this paper is how State violence manifests in the Nigerian novel, particularly in the context of the reprehensible postcolonial order that impinges on nation-building. By definition, State violence means forceful, coercive and high-handed appropriation of the apparatuses of the State by the ruling class for political and selfish ends, which results in physical, psychological and ethical harm or damage. In circumventing the contradictions posed by this inept practice, intellectual militancy is the option to bring change in Nigeria as illustrated by Nigerian writers (novelists) in their works.
