Management Faculty Publications

Administrators in the upper echelons of higher education face an array of dilemmas that impact and inform institutional priorities around how to serve various student populations best. Chief among those considerations is how to empower historically disenfranchised students toward a deeply substantive experience that inspires them intellectually and involves them in areas of social justice. This chapter provides an explanatory case study of a successful program launched by two vice presidents of a small, Predominately White Institution (PWI) in rural Kansas. It shows how deeply impactful outcomes for black male students can be achieved through intentional Elevating Educational Intentional Practice …

Firm Age And Crude Oil Returns: Stock Price Sensitivity Of Oil-Producing And Consuming Companies, Hirofumi Nishi Ph.D.

Economics, Finance & Accounting Faculty Publications

This study aims to identify firm characteristics that affect the cross-firm variation in oil–stock interactions. A panel data analysis with a sample of U.S. and Canadian firms reveals that the stock price sensitivity to crude oil price returns is negatively and significantly associated with firm age. Contrary to a common belief, firm size or stock liquidity does not seem to influence heterogeneity in oil–stock relationships. My finding is consistent across oil-producing and consuming companies while the effect of firm age is not observed among financial institutions engaged in commodity trading. An additional test using the panel Granger causality approach shows …

Journal of International & Interdisciplinary Business Research

We study the relationships and intervening mechanism between leaders’ transformational and contingent reward behaviors and the raters’ satisfaction with their supervision in the context of nonprofit and for-profit management settings in the United States. The results show that regardless of the context, transformational leadership on the part of the manager relates positively to the raters’ satisfaction with supervision and that this relationship is stronger in nonprofit organizations. Our results also provide evidence for the differential impact of contingent reward in for-profit and nonprofit settings. In the for-profit context, the relationship between contingent reward and satisfaction with supervision is negative while …

Results indicated that workgroup identification (WID) was positively predicted by members’ use of organizational social media to seek work-related information, and organizational identification (OID) was positively predicted by organizational social media and intranet for the same purpose. These relationships were either partially or fully mediated by employee’s uncertainty level. Results contributed to …

Bank Specific Determinants Of Profitability In Turkish Banks, Ahmet Karakuza

Master's Theses

This paper examines the profitability of Turkish commercial banks during the period 2005 – 2014. We use bank – specific determinants to predict the following years’ profitability measured by return on assets (ROA). Among the performance measures, the amount of net interest income as a proportion of total operating income is positive related to profitability. It remains important for banks to loan money out at a rate higher than their cost of capital. Non-interest income as a proportion of total assets is strongly positively related to profitability. Consumer loans as a proportion of total loans is negatively related to profitability. …

Blown To Bits Project, David Schmidt

Informatics Open Educational Resources

The book, Blown to Bits, uncovers the many ways that the new digital world has changed and is changing our whole environment. Some changes are incremental but others are more revolutionary. Some of the changes that we welcome are slowly eroding our privacy and are changing the rules of ownership. This book illuminates the complexities of these changes. I have attempted to capture the central points in selected chapters, and in some cases I have added new material or new examples to replace dated material. I picked chapters to summarize that address the following topics (and more). There are many …

The Long-Run Supply Curve: Some Factors Affecting Its Shape, Eugene Darrel Pauley

Fort Hays Studies Series

Since so much importance is attached to the price mechanism in the economic system, it is only natural that a large body of economic theory is concerned primarily with explaining how prices are determined. This writer is concerned with only one rather small phase of this body of theory--some of the influences affecting long-run supply. We are interested here in the behavior of the seller or supplier of a commodity.

The Kansas Court Of Industrial Relations, Jack W. Rodgers May 1948

The Kansas Court Of Industrial Relations, Jack W. Rodgers

Master's Theses

The Kansas Industrial Court Act has the distinction of being the only one of its kind ever passed. The things it attempted to do had never been done before in just the same way, nor have they ever since been imitated. But, to many people, there had been previous experiments closely resembling the Kansas act of 1920. They pointed to various acts passed in the latter part of the 19th. century, and the early part of the 20th, in such places as New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and even in parts of the United States as being forerunners of the Kansas …

The Trend Of Farm Population And Land Ownership In Smith County, Kansas, From 1900 And 1940, Charles Casper Easterly

Master's Theses

All through their history the American people have lived and developed in the presence of abundant land. If a farm failed to produce profitably the occupants would merely move to the frontier and take up new land. In the few years prior to nineteen hundred the frontier, as a large determining factor in the life of our people, ceased to exist. Many farm problems arose. The spread of the machine process has raised many problems which we have to puzzle over. Power farm machinery has made it possible for one man to do the work which formerly required the services …

The trends shown however, are based upon definite statistics and therefore give the conclusions that are drawn the element of accuracy which has usually been lacking in the popular …
