This article explores the history of automobility as ideology, its effect on individuals and its possible future. In the USA in the early 20th century the automobile served to solve the crisis of individualism, created by Taylorism and the rise of the scientific method. To the people of the time the car was associated with freedom and individuality. Freedom through the automobile however was and would never be universally accessible. The purpose of this project was to become an explorer in the world of creativity for the purpose of learning and self-improvement. On a weekly basis, as a creativity explorer, I researched a theory related to the expressive arts and personal development or engaged in an experience (i.e. travel) to discover “what it means to live a creative life.” The discoveries are discussed, including key learnings, products of the project, and workshop activities to assist others in exploring their creative lives. A sampling of the journey through photographs, expressive journaling and poetry are represented.

Costs of investment were weighed against capital contributions throughout our campaign. While the film serves to inspire, entertain, and inform, the paper dives deeper into the brand-building, cost-savings, and logistics of the trip. In the end, we more than doubled our initial investment and had an awesome time while doing it.

Articles, stories, and other compositions in this archive were written by participants in the Mighty Pen Project. The program, developed by author David L. Robbins, and in partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University and the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond, Virginia, offers veterans and their family members a customized twelve-week writing class, free of charge. The program encourages, supports, and assists participants in sharing their stories and experiences of military experience so both writer and audience may benefit.
