Research Question: What are the differences and similarities between the perceptions of the medical and psychological management of both type 2 diabetes and tuberculosis? Objectives: The principal objective of this study is to understand the perceptions behind DM2 and TB as well as how these perceptions affect the care of these diseases. To assess trends in life expectancy and the contribution of specific causes of death to Native American-White longevity gaps in the Four Corners states, we used death records from the National Center for Health Statistics and population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau from 1999–2017 to generate period life tables and decompose racial gaps in life expectancy. Native American-White life expectancy gaps narrowed between 2001 and 2012 but widened thereafter, reaching 4.92 years among males and 2.06 years among females in 2015. The life expectancy disadvantage among Native American males was primarily attributable to motor vehicle accidents (0.96 years), liver …

El presente estudio busca analizar la mortalidad por diabetes en Guatemala con el propósito de identificar posibles criterios epidemiológicos que orienten la priorización de acciones de salud pública. El riesgo de morir de diabetes en Guatemala muestra marcadas desigualdades por departamento, las que son aún más marcadas al comparar por municipio. El riesgo de morir es también más alto en mujeres, en personas mestizas o ladinas, en niveles educativos bajos, y en personas que se dedican a ocupaciones elementales. Of patients with COVID-19, 94 percent of deaths are patients with pre-existing conditions of pneumonia, hypertension, and diabetes. Current research shows the comorbidity of patients with COVID-19 and Type 2 Diabetes. Despite a growing literature on the interaction of these two diseases, most research focuses on physiological interactions. There remains a pressing need for research on the biosocial mechanisms contributing to the interaction between Diabetes and COVID-19. Explanatory Necropolitics: Physicians’ Perspectives On Compliance, Culture, And Competence In The Management Of Chronic Disease, Rithvik Ramesh

In this thesis, I explore physicians’ conceptions of culture in the management of chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension. Physicians whom I interviewed deconstructed the challenges of compliance into coded components of knowing, wanting, and doing. This pattern creates a new form of adherent autonomy, which offers the freedom to choose as much as it surveils, expects, and moralizes “good” choices in the pursuit of good care. Consequently, adherent autonomy deprives patients of practical sovereignty and continues to objectify individuals in more indirect and ostensibly acceptable forms. While physicians’ definitions for culture ranged in scope and content, they prominently framed …
