Faunal Studies Of The Lower Jefferson Limestones, James L. Eymann
Faunal Studies Of The Lower Jefferson Limestones, James L. Eymann
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
The exact geologic age of the Jefferson limestone in Montana has not been definitely determined, other than it is probably of upper, but possibly in part of middle Devonian age. Although not of immediate or apparent economic importance, the determination of the exact age of the Jefferson limestone may be of much value in connection with the discoveries of large quantities of oil in Devonian strata in the northern Great Plains and, in particular, with the extensive deep drilling in northeastern Montana which is anticipated during the summer of 1951.
Faunal Studies Of The Sappington Sandstone Of Southwestern Montana, Howard E. Banta
Faunal Studies Of The Sappington Sandstone Of Southwestern Montana, Howard E. Banta
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
The exact upper boundary of the Devonian of Montana has long been a controversy, as is true of the Devonian-Mississippian contact in many other localities. In an effort to delimit the upper Devonian, various paleontologic studies have been made, more especially in the southwestern part of the state.
Structure Of Southwestern Montana, Donald W. Levandowski
Structure Of Southwestern Montana, Donald W. Levandowski
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
Intrusions of granitic rocks on a large scale are commonly found in the central part of folded mountain systems. Igneous rocks, intrusive and extrusive, are widespread in the mountains of southwestern Montana. An examination of the structural pattern of this area indicates that the fold trends form a radial pattern. How and why this pattern formed and its relation to the igneous activity in the area have not yet been discussed in the literature.
Helena And Ennis Talc Deposits, Howard N. Anderson
Helena And Ennis Talc Deposits, Howard N. Anderson
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
The purpose of this report is to collect geologic data concerning two Montana talc occurrences at Helena and Ennis and to offer some explanation as to their origin. The two deposits cited are in somewhat similar lithologic settings and both possess the same mineralogical and structural features. Because of this similarity only the Helena deposit is covered in detail.
Insoluble Residues Of The Lower Mississippian Limestones Of The Madison Group, Fred G. Lines
Insoluble Residues Of The Lower Mississippian Limestones Of The Madison Group, Fred G. Lines
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
The correlation of non-fossiliferous drill samples is one of the difficult problems that is encountered in sub-surface stratigraphy. In order to truly correlate a formation, it must have some dis tinctive features and have an areal persistence of these features. These requirements are probably met best by limestone.
Geologic Field Mapping In An Area Eight Miles North Of Three Forks, Montana, H. E. Lillis
Geologic Field Mapping In An Area Eight Miles North Of Three Forks, Montana, H. E. Lillis
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
The Three Forks are includes parts of Jefferson, Madison, Broadwater Pond Gallatin counties, Montana. Sedimentary formations lie at the surface nearly everywhere in the area, and the rugged surface topography has been developed through the folding and tilting of these formations and their differential erosion.
Areal Geology Of The Post-Paleozoic Surface Of The Northwest Plains, William M. Broderick
Areal Geology Of The Post-Paleozoic Surface Of The Northwest Plains, William M. Broderick
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
Probably most of the area included in this report has been examined to some extent by oil geologists, and most, if not all, of the important domes have been discovered and surveyed thoroughly. In parts of the area, the bedrock is covered by glacial drift or alluvium material, but it is reasonable to believe that no new domal structure will be found. This means that surface examination alone will be insufficient in locating new oil fields, so future prospecting will be dependent, to a great extent, on studies of sub-surface stratigraphy.
Fauna Of The Three Forks Formation In Montana, Will Mitchel Jr.
Fauna Of The Three Forks Formation In Montana, Will Mitchel Jr.
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
The purpose of this paper is to identify and describe the fauna, correlate it with that of the Upper Devonian of other states, to note the geographic distribution, lithologic variations of outcrops, and to compare measured cross sections.
Geology Of A Portion Of The Bull Mountain Range Jefferson County, Montana, Thomas A. Greene
Geology Of A Portion Of The Bull Mountain Range Jefferson County, Montana, Thomas A. Greene
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
Work was first done on a known section, the south Boulder Section, in order to familiarize the student with the formations. Most of the area was mapped by plane table and telescopic alidade, general features being surveyed by automobile traverse and a pacing traverse.
