Elinvo (Electronics, Informatics, and Vocational Education)
The mapping of research topics for lecturers is necessary to determine the research tendencies in a department or study program. This study aims to implement topic modeling in the publication titles of the Department of Electronics and Informatics Education Engineering of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (JPTEI UNY) lecturers taken from Google Scholar. The method used for topic modeling is the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). LDA is a generative probabilistic model for finding the semantic structure of a corpus collection based on the hierarchical bayesian analysis. After the topic modeling process, the results showed that JPTEI UNY lecturers tend to have …
International R D & E Investment: Revitalising The Skill Base In Grassland Research And Practice, Ralph Von Kaufmann
International R D & E Investment: Revitalising The Skill Base In Grassland Research And Practice, Ralph Von Kaufmann
IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)
Grasslands make up about 40.5% of the world’s land surface, and almost everywhere they make vital contributions to food supplies, livelihoods, watersheds, conservation of biodiversity and to ameliorating climate change through carbon sequestration. However, grasslands are under-represented in discussions on food security and livelihoods. Despite large investments in building human capacity, improving production systems and in research, grasslands are continuing to degrade and there is no let-up in sight for the consequent strife, famines and conflicts among the pastoral and other communities that depend on them. This review of grassland issues identified many critical skills that are lacking but it …

The Coastal Monitor
In 2013 I had the distinct pleasure to be offered the opportunity to become a part of the Molloy College family. President Dr. Drew Bogner believed that CERCOM would be an important part of building an exciting program for students in Earth and Environmental Science at Molloy. Dr. Bogner was able to envision how the CERCOM Field Station, would enrich Molloy College science students, given its decades of earth, environmental, and marine sciences research. He had the foresight to understand that the experiences at CERCOM would help foster a vast array of international academic collaborations which now include 14 countries. …

An Animal-Assisted Intervention Study In The Nursing Home: Lessons Learned, Lonneke G. J. A. Schuurmans, Inge Noback, Jos M. G. A. Schols, Marie-Jose Enders-Slegers
People and Animals: The International Journal of Research and Practice
AAI studies in the nursing home pose a specific set of challenges. In this article the practical and ethical issues encountered during a Dutch psychogeriatric nursing home AAI study are addressed with the aim of sharing our experiences for future researchers as well as AAI practitioners in general.
In our study we compared three groups of clients with dementia who participated in group sessions of either visiting dog teams, visiting FurReal Friend robot animals, or visiting students (control group) and monitored the effect on social interaction and neuropsychiatric symptoms through video analysis and questionnaires. We encountered the following four categories …

Smart Home Simulation In The Virtual World, Thomas Jones-Moore, David Son
Smart Home Simulation In The Virtual World, Thomas Jones-Moore, David Son
Scholars Week
The goal of this project is to produce a 'smart home' by using IoT and RFID like things in the virtual world to help solve problems. Some of these problems can be CPR training, etc. Used as an evaluation platform of suggested hardware to get a desired (or best fit) set of smart objects, or combinations with computer vision. Cost model to determine best fit based on: accuracy, lowest cost, easiest deployment, etc.

Case–Control Research Study Of Auto-Brewery Syndrome, Barbara Jean Cordell, Anup Kanodia, Gregory K. Miller
Case–Control Research Study Of Auto-Brewery Syndrome, Barbara Jean Cordell, Anup Kanodia, Gregory K. Miller
Faculty Publications
Background: Auto-brewery syndrome (ABS), also known as Gut Fermentation Syndrome and Endogenous Ethanol Fermentation, is afflicting people worldwide, but little is known about ABS patients’ demographics, health history, lifestyle factors, and diet.
Method: We conducted a broad-based case–control survey study on 52 patients known to have a diagnosis of ABS and their household members. The research compares the symptomatic group (N ¼ 28) to the asymptomatic group (N ¼ 18) regarding lifestyle and health, diet, and medical history.
Results: With a response rate of 88% and using rank-sum tests, the data demonstrate that patients with ABS have …
Improved Momentum Spread For Precision Physics Experiments Using Wedges, Nick Amato
Improved Momentum Spread For Precision Physics Experiments Using Wedges, Nick Amato
Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations
High precision experiments have become key in the search for physics beyond the Standard Model. One measurement that can be made in order to expand our knowledge of the Standard Model is the precise measurement of the magnetic dipole moment (MDM) of the muon. In order to perform this precise measurement of the MDM of muons, the storage of particles with a precisely known momentum in a highly uniform magnetic field is required.
This thesis is focused on how one may use a wedge of energy absorbing material and the optical parameters of an accelerator lattice to improve upon the …
