Football’S Future: An Analytical Interpretation Of The Premier League, Hunter Witeof
Football’S Future: An Analytical Interpretation Of The Premier League, Hunter Witeof
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
This project looks to take the statistics of soccer players and run them through an algorithm to determine how well a player is performing. The system that will be designed in the project will look to accomplish 3 main goals: allow the user to enter new statistics, store the data for all 38 game weeks for all 20 teams, and compute a score for each player’s performance for each game as well as the average of all of the player's scores.
Querying And Visualization Of Moving Objects Using Constraint Databases, Semere M. Woldemariam
Querying And Visualization Of Moving Objects Using Constraint Databases, Semere M. Woldemariam
Department of Computer Science and Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Good querying and visualization of moving objects and their trajectories is still an open problem. This thesis investigates three types of moving objects. First, projectiles, whose parabolic motion is difficult to represent. Second, moving objects that slide down a slope. The representation of these objects is challenging because of their accelerating motion. Third, the motion of migrating animals. The motion of migrating animals is challenging because it also involves some spatio-temporal interpolation. The thesis shows a solution to these problems using ideas from physics and an implementation in the MLPQ constraint databases system. The MLPQ implementation enables several complex spatio-temporal …

We present a new version of a shear-wave splitting (SWS) database for the western and central United States (WCUS) using broadband seismic data recorded up to the end of 2014 to update a previous version that used data recorded prior to the end of 2012, when the USArray Transportable Array stations were still recording in the easternmost region of theWCUS. A total of 7452 pairs of additional measurements recorded by 1202 digital broadband seismic stations are obtained, and all the measurements in the previous database are rechecked. The resulting uniform SWS database contains a total of 23,448 pairs of well-defined …
Hydrographic Surface Modeling Through A Raster Based Spline Creation Method, Julie G. Alexander
Hydrographic Surface Modeling Through A Raster Based Spline Creation Method, Julie G. Alexander
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
The United States Army Corp of Engineers relies on accurate and detailed surface models for various construction projects and preventative measures. To aid in these efforts, it is necessary to work for advancements in surface model creation. Current methods for model creation include Delaunay triangulation, raster grid interpolation, and Hydraulic Spline grid generation. While these methods produce adequate surface models, attempts for improved methods can still be made.
A method for raster based spline creation is presented as a variation of the Hydraulic Spline algorithm. By implementing Hydraulic Splines in raster data instead of vector data, the model creation process …

We present a shear wave splitting (SWS) database for the western and central United States as part of a lasting effort to build a uniform SWS database for the entire North America. The SWS measurements were obtained by minimizing the energy on the transverse component of the PKS, SKKS, and SKS phases. Each of the individual measurements was visually checked to ensure quality. This version of the database contains 16,105 pairs of splitting parameters. The data used to generate the parameters were recorded by 1774 digital broadband seismic stations over the period of 1989-2012, and represented all the available data …

Given a set of data points P and a query point q in a multidimensional space, Reverse Nearest Neighbor (RNN) query finds data points in P whose nearest neighbors are q. Reverse k-Nearest Neighbor (RkNN) query (where k ≥ 1) generalizes RNN query to find data points whose kNNs include q. For RkNN query semantics, q is said to have influence to all those answer data points. The degree of q's influence on a data point p (∈ P) is denoted by κp where q is the κp-th NN of p. We introduce a new variant of RNN query, namely, …

Mobile user data mining is a field that focuses on extracting interesting pattern and knowledge out from data generated by mobile users. Group pattern is a type of mobile user data mining method. In group pattern mining, group patterns from a given user movement database is found based on spatio-temporal distances. In this paper, we propose an improvement of efficiency using area method for locating mobile users and using sliding window for static group pattern mining. This reduces the complexity of valid group pattern mining problem. We support the use of static method, which uses areas and sliding windows instead …

XML is a self-describing meta-language and fast emerging as a dominant standard for Web data exchange among various applications. With the tremendous growth of XML documents, an efficient storage system is required to manage them. The conventional databases, which require all data to adhere to an explicitly specified rigid schema, are unable to provide an efficient storage for tree-structured XML documents. A new data model that is specifically designed for XML documents is required. In this paper, we propose a new storage system, named Efficient Native XML Storage System (ENAXS), for large and complex XML documents. ENAXS stores all XML …
