Relationship Between Hotels' Design Adequacy And Hoteliers' Perception Of Sustainable Energy Management In Abuja, Nigeria, Aisha Isa Shehu, Bala Ishiyaku, Hadiza Balarabe Kudan, Sani Inusa Milala

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

Energy is a sustainability issue receiving primary global concern. Improving energy efficiency and utilizing renewable resources are important in building energy sustainability. An energy-efficient design is a basis for controlling energy efficiency in buildings, and it is highly motivated by the sustainable energy management perception of relevant stakeholders. Hotels have high energy intensities and high working costs. This study investigates the relationship between hotel design adequacy and hoteliers' perception of sustainable energy management in Abuja, Nigeria. The investigation embraces quantitative structure utilizing exploratory and elucidating techniques. The mean ranking and Pearson product-moment correlation results revealed substantial and weak positive correlations …

Caee: Communication-Aware, Energy-Efficient Vm Placement Model For Multi-Tier Applications In Large Scale Cloud Data Centers, Soha Rawas, Ahmed Zekri

BAU Journal - Science and Technology

the increasing demand for cloud computing services has led to the adoption of large-scale cloud data centers (DCs) to meet the user’s requirements. Efficiency and managing of such DCs have become a challenging problem. Consequently, energy-efficient solutions to optimize the whole DC energy consumption, optimize the application’s performance and reduce the cloud provider operational cost are crucial and needed. This paper addressed the problem of Virtual Machines (VMs) placement of multi-tier applications to maximize the compute resources utilization, minimize energy consumption, and reduce network traffic inside modern large-scale cloud DCs. The VM placement problem with communication dependencies among the VMs …

The Spatial Economics Of Clean Energy In New Jersey, Anthony J. Bevacqua May 2020

The Spatial Economics Of Clean Energy In New Jersey, Anthony J. Bevacqua

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

Clean energy policy is critically important in driving reductions of greenhouse gases and mitigating climate change. As clean energy technologies improve over time and interact with social systems and broader energy markets, there is a need for innovative environmental management that supports development of new clean energy policy. Understanding where these technologies may be deployed, quantifying the anticipated benefits, and mitigating risks are required for successful policy optimization. With these considerations in mind, this dissertation explores geothermal heat pumps (GHP), solar photovoltaics, and the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). We call upon spatial economics to investigate these topics by incorporating …

Energy Efficiency Of A Flat-Plate Solar Collector Using Thermally Treated Graphene-Based Nanofluids: Experimental Study, Omer A. Alawi, Haslinda Mohamed Kamar, Hussein A. Mohammed, A. R. Mallah, Omar A. Hussein Jan 2020

Hussein

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

© The Author(s) 2020. A covalent functionalization approach was utilized for the preparation of highly dispersed pentaethylene glycol-thermally treated graphene-water as the absorbing material inside a flat-plate solar collector. Four mass fractions of nanofluids were prepared (0.025, 0.05, 0.075, and 0.1 wt% pentaethylene glycol-thermally treated graphene-water). Graphene nanoparticles were characterized by energy dispersive X-ray analysis with a scanning electron microscope. Measurements of the thermophysical properties were subsequently carried out for the nanosuspensions. The raw investigation data were collected from an indoor flat-plate solar collector test setup. The experimental procedure included different sets of variables such as input temperatures of 303, …

A Secure And Energy-Efficient Opportunistic Routing Protocol With Void Avoidancefor Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks, Varun Menon, Divya Midhunchakkaravarthy, Sonali John, Sunil Jacob, Amrit Mukherjee Jan 2020

A Secure And Energy-Efficient Opportunistic Routing Protocol With Void Avoidancefor Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks, Varun Menon, Divya Midhunchakkaravarthy, Sonali John, Sunil Jacob, Amrit Mukherjee

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Recently, underwater acoustic sensor networks (UASNs) have gained wide attention due to their numerous applications in underwater surveillance, oil leakage detection, assisted navigation, and disaster prevention. With unique characteristics like increased propagation delay, constant mobility of sensor nodes, high error rate, and limitations in energy and interference, efficient routing of data packets from the source node to the destination is a major challenge in UASNs. Most of the protocols proposed for traditional sensor networks do not work well in UASNs. Although many protocols have been specifically proposed for underwater environments, the aim of most of them is to improve only …

An Energy-Efficient Lightweight Security Protocol For Optimal Resource Provenance In Wireless Sensor Networks, Sujesh Lal, Joe Prathap P M Jan 2020

An Energy-Efficient Lightweight Security Protocol For Optimal Resource Provenance In Wireless Sensor Networks, Sujesh Lal, Joe Prathap P M

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Security of resource sharing and provenance is a major concern in wireless sensor networks(WSNs),wherethe intruders can easily inject malicious intermediate nodes for various personal gains. This selective forwarding attack may reduce the flow of resource sharing and throughput in the network. Most of the existing techniques are complex and do not provide sufficient security to sensor nodes with low energy. This paper proposes an energy-efficient and lightweight security protocol for optimal resource provenance in multihop WSNs and the Internet of things (IoT) network. The sharing of the resources between the sensor nodes indicates the strength of the mutual cooperation between …
