Biennial Conference: The Social Practice of Human Rights
Partnerships between human rights practitioners, local communities, scientists, engineers, and health professionals have shown potential to address deeply rooted, systemic human rights concerns. These collaborations are essential for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and for engaging the perspectives and expertise of all constituents. However, even when the individuals in these partnerships or the organizations they represent have common goals, their motivations, analyses, and solutions often come from different perspectives. Members of good will can inadvertently alienate one another when attempting to work together. The fields of human rights, social justice, environmental justice, and ethics have each developed their …

Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute: Faculty Publications
Global demand for livestock products is rising, resulting in a growing demand for feed and potentially burdening freshwater resources to produce this feed. To offset this increased pressure on water resources, the environmental performance of livestock sector should continue to improve. Over the last few decades, product output per animal and feedstuff yields in the US have improved, but before now it was unclear to what extent these improvements influenced the water productivity (WP) of the livestock products. In this research, we estimate changes in WP of animal products from 1960 to 2016. We consider feed conversion ratios (dry matter …
Statistical Viability Analysis Of United States Air Force Estimating Cost Factor For Sustainable Construction, Philip A. Ramsey, Diedrich Prigge, Torrey J. Wagner, Alfred E. Thal Jr.
Statistical Viability Analysis Of United States Air Force Estimating Cost Factor For Sustainable Construction, Philip A. Ramsey, Diedrich Prigge, Torrey J. Wagner, Alfred E. Thal Jr.

Varying legislation and executive orders coupled with needs for energy resiliency have led the United States Air Force (USAF) to pursue sustainable construction. However, the limited understanding of initial costs to implement these changes have contributed to poor project cost estimating, resulting in 62 percent of USAF projects experiencing more than 5 percent cost growth. After reviewing 1628 USAF Military Construction (MILCON) construction projects in 922 category codes (CATCODEs), a twotailed t-test for populations with unequal variance was accomplished on the final normalized contract cost for 340 projects in 16 CATCODEs executed between 2002 and 2017. This analysis provides a …
Simulation Evaluation Method Of Mission Sustainability For Operational Unit, Yan Xu, Junhai Cao, Tailiang Song, Gao Long, Zhang Qiang
Simulation Evaluation Method Of Mission Sustainability For Operational Unit, Yan Xu, Junhai Cao, Tailiang Song, Gao Long, Zhang Qiang
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: To analyze and evaluate support capabilities of operational units and scientifically describe the operational mission sustainability of weapon systems, the typical mission models for individual operational unit and operational units were established according to system engineering ideology. The mission status of operational units was defined, and the parameters including mission sustainability and equipment availability of operational units were proposed. An operational unit mission process simulation model was established with the agent-based method, which provides a simulation method for operational unit mission sustainability evaluation and technical means for the operational unit support capability assessment problem. A case study of …
