Electrochemical Fabrication Of Two-Dimensional Flower-Like Pt Nanostructures For Methanol Electrocatalytic Oxidation, Xia Wang, Jun Hu, Yong-Jun Li

Journal of Electrochemistry

Two-dimensional flower-like Pt nanostructures (2D FPNs) were fabricated on glassy carbon substrates by galvanostatical electrochemical technique. The electrolyte was the HAuCl4 + HClO4 aqueous solution without addition of any structure-directing organic reagent, which made as-prepared Pt nanostructures cleaner, exhibiting much higher reactivity. Scanning electron microscopic images revealed that 2D FPNs were spherical Pt nano-flowers constructed by the smallest building blocks, nano-leaves. The number density of spherical Pt nano-flowers can be tuned by controlling the electrodeposition time. High resolution transmission electron microscopic images indicated that each nano-leaf was formed by growing along Pt(111) direction. Electrocatalytic activities of as-prepared 2D …

Electrodeposition Of Copper From A Choline Chloride Based Ionic Liquid, Rostom Ali M., Ziaur Rahman Md., Sankarsaha S. Apr 2014

Electrodeposition Of Copper From A Choline Chloride Based Ionic Liquid, Rostom Ali M., Ziaur Rahman Md., Sankarsaha S.

Journal of Electrochemistry

The electrodeposition of copper from a solution containing copper chloride in either an ethylene glycol (EG)-choline chloride based or a urea-choline chloride based ionic liquid has been carried out onto a steel cathode by constant current and constant potential methods at room temperature. The influences of various experimental conditions on electrodeposition and the morphology of the deposited layers have been investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). It is shown that very smooth, shiny and dense with good adherence and bright metallic coloured copper coatings can be obtained from both EG and urea based ionic liquids at …

Atomic Layer Deposition Of Nanolaminate Structures Of Alternating Pbte And Pbse Thermoelectric Films, K. Zhang, A. D. Ramalingom Pillai, K. Bollenbach, D. Nminibapiel, W. Cao, H. Baumgart

Electrical & Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

For this study PbTe and PbSe thin film nanolaminates have been prepared on silicon substrates with native oxide by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) using lead(II)bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionato) (Pb(C11H19O2)(2), (trimethylsilyl) telluride ((Me3Si)2Te) and bis-(triethyl silyl) selane ((Et3Si)2Se) as ALD precursors for lead, tellurium and selenium. The experimental evidence revealed the ALD growth of lead telluride and lead selenide followed the Vollmer-Weber island growth mode. We found a strong dependence of the nucleation process on the temperature. In this paper, we present the optimized conditions for growing PbTe …

Hard Chromium Electrodeposition From A Trivalent Chromium Bath Containing Water-Soluble Polymer, Vyacheslav Protsenko, Viktor Gordiienko, Tatiana Butyrina, Elena Vasileva, Felix Danilov

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The effect of polyvinylpyrrolidones (PVPs) with different molecular weights as polymeric additives to a sulfate trivalent chromium bath was ascertained. Introduction of PVPs to the plating bath was stated to result in improvement in the surface appearance of chromium deposits and stabilization of current efficiency value in long-term electrolysis. The rate of metal deposition is practically independent of the deposition time. Thus, using PVP additive allows one to obtain high-quality Cr-coatings with a thickness of several tens of micrometers. It is found by means of turbidimetric analysis that the polymer additive has an accelerating effect on the aggregation of particles …
