Design, Analysis, And Optimization Of Traffic Engineering For Software Defined Networks, Mohammed Ibrahim Salman Jan 2022

Design, Analysis, And Optimization Of Traffic Engineering For Software Defined Networks, Mohammed Ibrahim Salman

Network traffic has been growing exponentially due to the rapid development of applications and communications technologies. Conventional routing protocols, such as Open-Shortest Path First (OSPF), do not provide optimal routing and result in weak network resources. Optimal traffic engineering (TE) is not applicable in practice due to operational constraints such as limited memory on the forwarding devices and routes oscillation. Recently, a new way of centralized management of networks enabled by Software-Defined Networking (SDN) made it easy to apply most traffic engineering ideas in practice. \par Toward creating an applicable traffic engineering system, we created a TE simulator for experimenting …

Highly-Configurable Multi-Objective Optimization For Physical Parameter Extraction Using Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy, Andrew John Niklas Jan 2018

Highly-Configurable Multi-Objective Optimization For Physical Parameter Extraction Using Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy, Andrew John Niklas

The use of terahertz time-domain spectroscopy provides one of the most versatile and promising techniques for the robust determination of optical parameters, which is needed to enable identification of materials for quality control, materials science advancement, tamper prevention, drug enforcement, and hidden explosives detection. Previously, the state-of-the-art relied on legacy error measures for minimization of simulation error and the standard practice was to use a single unique measurement for each unknown material in a sample. Successful optical parameter extraction for uniformly varying optical property materials is correlated with low variation in extracted optical properties. This work advances the state-of-the-art in …

The landscape of energy generation and utilization is witnessing an unprecedented change. We are at the threshold of a major shift in electricity generation from utilization of conventional sources of energy like coal to sustainable and renewable sources of energy like solar and wind. On the other hand, electricity consumption, especially in the field of transportation, due to advancements in the field of battery research and exponential technologies like vehicle telematics, is seeing a shift from carbon based to Lithium based fuel. Encouraged by 1. Decrease in the cost of Li – ion based batteries 2. Breakthroughs in battery chemistry …

Evolutionary Methodology For Optimization Of Image Transforms Subject To Quantization Noise, Michael Ray Peterson Jan 2008

Evolutionary Methodology For Optimization Of Image Transforms Subject To Quantization Noise, Michael Ray Peterson

Lossy image compression algorithms sacrifice perfect imagereconstruction in favor of decreased storage requirements. Modelossy compression schemes, such as JPEG2000, rely upon the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to achieve high levels of compression while minimizing the loss of information for image reconstruction. Some compression applications require higher levels of compression than those achieved through application of the DWT and entropy coding. In such lossy systems, quantization provides high compression rates at the cost of increased distortion. Unfortunately, as the amount of quantization increases, the performance of the DWT for accurate image reconstruction deteriorates. Previous research demonstrates that a genetic algorithm can …
