On the assumption that there is less turnover and optimum performance among employees who receive a high level of Job satisfaction, this study was undertaken to obtain data that administration could use in evaluating Job satisfaction among ancillary personnel.

The normative-survey was the method chosen and a standardized tool, the S.R.A, Employee Inventory, developed by the Science Research Associates of the University of Chicago, was employed for collecting the data. In the past decade the nurse/population ratio in the West had been declining. The region was not educating enough nurses to replace normal labor market turnover. The migration of nurses into the area was not in proportion to the explosive growth. In view of the deficit it became imperative for California communities to plan for expansion of existing nursing education facilities and to consider the development of new programs where educational and clinical facilities were available.

This study was conducted to find out if the giving of alternate hot-and-cold treatments to the chest following abdominal hysterectomy would result in measurable benefits in improved patient comfort and rate of recovery. The White Memorial Hospital was selected as the control area and the Loma Linda Sanitarium and Hospital was selected as the experimental area.

Literature was reviewed to determine the value of wet heat and cold on the circulatory and respiratory system and whether or not their effects would be useful postoperatively.

The purposes of this descriptive survey were to (1) find out if the incidence of bladder infection could be reduced by decreasing the number of postoperative catheterizations, (2) find out what the incidence of current methods of postoperative bladder evacuation were, (3) find out if and what changes had occurred in the incidence of the methods of bladder evacuation since the publication of previous studies, and (4) discover the current relationships of the methods of bladder evacuation to various factors such as age, sex, marital status, admission status, type of operation, and type and length of anesthesia.

This study was done at the White Memorial Medical Center to develop meaningful financial statements for the dietary department; to provide a simple method of interpretation of each financial statement; and to provide essential cost control data for the dietary department and the administrator. The benefits derived from this study were to assist the dietitian in controlling the dietary department's food costs.
