Molecularly Inspired Organic Macrocycles Catalyzed Water Splitting Reaction For Sustainable Fuel Production, Yulu Ge

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Hydrogen fuel generation through electrochemical water splitting is considered as an advanced energy conversion technology driven by sustainable energy. High activity and cost effective electrocatalysts that are able to drive down the energy cost needed for both two half reactions, namely, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are required to fulfill the energy transfer process. Exploring new electrocatalysts with enhanced OER and HER activity and stability is crucial for renewable energy applications. Porphyrin and macrocycle derivatives are versatile and can electrochemically catalyze water splitting efficiently. In our work, we use porphyrin as platform for both HER and …

The discovery of efficient and sustainable carbon-based nanotechnologies to solve both the scarcity of drinking water and global energy crisis has become a paramount task in the last decades. Owed to the fast population growth and industrialization of the modern society, access to potable water and clean energy technologies is becoming very hard around the globe. Water pollutants have become a serious threat to the environment and ecology because of their toxic nature. Parallelly, the current hydrocarbon-based fuel industries are generating high levels of contamination across the planet, making imperative the development of cleaner energy technologies. In this regard, the …
