Development Of Natural Product-Derived Cationic Polymers For Biomaterial Applications, Moumita Sharmin Jui Apr 2020

Development Of Natural Product-Derived Cationic Polymers For Biomaterial Applications, Moumita Sharmin Jui

Theses and Dissertations

In this thesis, multicyclic natural products and metallocene-containing polymers were synthesized for biomedical applications.

Chapter 1 describes the overall background, the recent development of natural product-based antimicrobial biomaterial and metallocene containing polymer for biomedical application. Afterward, the primary research objectives of my research are illustrated.

In chapter 2, a multicyclic natural product derived guanidine-based facially amphiphilic homopolymers and copolymers were synthesized. Cholic acid is one of the bile acid derivatives used to prepare facially amphiphilic moieties. A neutral polyethylene glycol (PEG) component was used to prepare copolymers with cholic acid. Reversible-addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization technique was used to …

Cationic Metallocene-Containing Biomaterials For Antimicrobial Applications, Parasmani Pageni Jan 2018

Cationic Metallocene-Containing Biomaterials For Antimicrobial Applications, Parasmani Pageni

Theses and Dissertations

Metal-containing polymers or metallopolymers, are one of the major classes of polymers which stand out independently because of a unique combination of organic and inorganic components in one macromolecular system. Among the variety of metallopolymers, metallocene-containing polymers have been widely utilized for applications ranging from electrochemical sensors to templates for advanced inorganic catalysts to battery materials, due to their unique physicochemical properties. This dissertation is focused on the synthesis, characterization, and application of cationic metallocene-containing polymeric materials. Cationic-cobaltocenium was grafted in various inorganic nanoparticles using polymerization techniques such as reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization.

In Chapter 1, the overall background …

Cationic Metallocene-Containing Polymers: From Synthesis To Applications, Jiuyang Zhang Dec 2014

Cationic Metallocene-Containing Polymers: From Synthesis To Applications, Jiuyang Zhang

Theses and Dissertations

Metallopolymers, with the combination of metals and polymeric framworks, have attracted a lot of attention during the past decades. The development of metallopolymers has been largely driven by the desire to combine the synthetic efficiency and versatility of an organic polymer framework with the unique redox, responsive and catalytic properties of inorganic metals. Among different kinds of metallopolymers, metallocene-containing polymers, have been widely utilized for applications ranging from electrochemical sensors to templates for advanced inorganic catalysts to battery materials, due to their unique physicochemical properties. In the first part of my thesis, we showed controlled/living polymerization strategies to prepare well-defined …
