Learning To Live With Changing Climate And Rising Sea Levels, Mitigation & Adaption Research Institute (Mari), Old Dominion University

MARI Documents

In support of the development of the Mitigation and Adaptation Research Institute, MARI, the proposal writing team developed a survey to elicit stakeholder comment. The survey was conducted using the internet-‐based survey tool, Qualtrics, hosted by Old Dominion University and was available from February 26 to March 21, 2014

The survey was distributed to approximately 550 stakeholders who were identified through their participation in previous climate change adaptation events, local government contacts and email lists. Recipients were asked to invite interested colleagues or other contacts to participate in the survey by forwarding the solicitation email. One hundred and eleven responses …

A Report On The X-Ray Properties Of The Τ Sco Class Of Stars., Richard Ignace, L. Oskinova, D. Massa

ETSU Faculty Works

An increasing number of OB stars have been shown to possess magnetic fields. Although the sample remains small, it is surprising that the magnetic and X-ray properties of these stars appear to be far less correlated than expected. This contradicts model predictions, which generally indicate that the X-rays from magnetic stars are harder and more luminous than their non-magnetic counterparts. Instead, the X-ray properties of magnetic OB stars are quite diverse. τ Sco is one example where the expectations are better met. This bright main-sequence, early B star has been studied extensively in a variety of wavebands. It has a …

Short Report On: Inquiry Into The Utilisation Of Rail And Infrastructure Corridors. Prepared For The Nsw Legislative Assembly, Committee On Transport And Infrastructure, Andrew Mccusker, Nagesh Shukla

SMART Infrastructure Facility - Papers

This report to the parliamentary inquiry addresses the use of land development for integrated infrastructure corridors and considers improvement to policy development, planning and strategies to achieve greater productivity, enhanced liveability and improved economic benefit through informed decision making. In considering rail corridor usage long term it is essential to support the needs of society through decision making that is underpinned by proper analysis and longer term modelling. In order to ensure any proposed interventions represent a step forward with respect to competiveness of the transport system, the liveability for affected residence and customers and the overall resilience to unexpected …

Preliminary Assessment Of The Handline (Banca) Fisheries In The Philippines (Fis/2009/033). Final Report, Ronald J. West, Mary Ann Palma, Noel Barut, Elaine Garvilles, Desiderio Ayanan

Faculty of Science - Papers (Archive)

The Philippines, with an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of 2.2 million sq. km, including over 7,000 islands, relies on fisheries as one of its major industries, sources of employment and in promoting food security. The hand-line fishery using bancas (or pump boats), catching commercially viable species such as tuna, is a major component of both municipal and commercial fisheries in the Philippines. Hand-line fishing is considered one of the most sustainable forms of fishing in the country. However, the economic significance of the hand-line fishery is increasingly threatened by a number of factors, including poor information on the fishery and …

A Golden Garment? Identifying New Ways Of Looking At The Past Through A Preliminary Report Of Textile Fragments From The Pafos ‘Erotes’ Sarcophagus, Adriana Garcia, Diana Wood Conroy

Faculty of Science - Papers (Archive)

A golden garment? A preliminary report of textile fragments from the Pafos ‘Erotes’ Sarcophagus Diana Wood Conroy and Adriana Garcia Remnants of very fine gold thread and reddish fibre were found among bone fragments in the ‘pillow’ end of the interior of the Pafos marble sarcophagus in 2001. The placement of the threads suggested a cloth laid over the upper part of the body. The excavator, Dr Eustathios Raptou has described how the sarcophagus had been looted in antiquity, leaving only one jewel and a finial from what must have been rich funerary goods. The textile fragments demonstrated the opulence …

Data Report: Clast Counts And Petrography Of Gravels From Site C0007, Iodp Expedition 316, Nankai Trough, Christopher L. Fergusson

Faculty of Science - Papers (Archive)

Gravel beds drilled during Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expedition 316 at Site C0007 in the eastern Nankai Trough, ~100km offshore from the Kii Peninsula of Honshu, southwest Japan, have been investigated using 26 samples from two horizons (Cores 316-C0007C/C-17H and 316-C0007D-12R). The gravel from Core 316-C0007c-17H is from a 1.7m thick layer, whereas the gravel from Core 316-C0007D-12R is from a layer 4.55m thick. The upper parts of both layers are normally graded. The gravel is clast-supported, polymictic, of granule to pebble size, moderately to poorly sorted, and with subrounded to angular fragments. Clast types are similar from both cores …

Plant Information Compiled By The Utah Natural Heritage Program: A Progress Report, M. A. Franklin, State Of Utah Department Of Natural Resources

All U.S. Government Documents (Utah Regional Depository)

The Utah Natural Heritage Program (UTHP) was initiated in late summer 1988 and has functioned as an ongoing biological survey of the state with an emphasis on rare or declining species. It serves as a centralized data repository, acquiring range wide information regarding rare plant and animal species for use by land managers as well as for the evaluation of conservation needs. As well as being used by government agencies, data are used in responding to requests for information from non-government organizations and private interests. Data can be used in the assessment of species’ conservation status state-wide and, in coordination …

Assessing The Future Of Electrical Power Engineering: A Report On Electrical Power Engineering Manpower Requirements In Australia, Victor J. Gosbell, D A. Robinson

Faculty of Informatics - Papers (Archive)

In 2001 the Electric Energy Society of Australia (EESA) developed concerns based on anecdotal evidence that there was a looming shortage of electrical power engineers in Australia. Information from the electrical power industry and academic communities was obtained through two separate survey questionnaires, a discussion workshop, and a number of submissions. This information was collated and compiled into 'Assessing the Future of Electrical Power Engineering: a Report on Electrical Power Engineering Manpower Requirements in Australia'.

Crafting A Research Paper, Ronan Fitzpatrick, Kevin O'Donnell

Conference papers

Writing research papers presents numerous different challenges, which vary from how to layout the various pages and format the text to what to include in the different sections that make up the paper. In order to clarify these issues this paper sets out guidelines and best practice approaches and demonstrates their use in the style of this paper.
