'Catch The King' Tide Thank You And Review, Jon Derek Loftis
'Catch The King' Tide Thank You And Review, Jon Derek Loftis
Presentations
"Catch the King" was a citizen science GPS data collection effort centered in Hampton Roads, VA, that mapped the King Tide's maximum inundation extents to validate and improve predictive models for future forecasting of increasingly pervasive "nuisance" flooding. GPS data points collected by volunteers effectively breadcrumbed/traced the high water line by pressing the 'Save Data' button in the Sea Level Rise App every few steps along the water's edge during the high tide on the morning of Nov. 5th, 2017.
Response from the event's dedicated volunteers, fueled by the local media partners' coverage leading up to the event, and over …

Assessing Landslide Susceptibility With Gis Using Qualitative & Quantitative Methods In Knox County, Nebraska, Christian J. Cruz
Assessing Landslide Susceptibility With Gis Using Qualitative & Quantitative Methods In Knox County, Nebraska, Christian J. Cruz
Department of Geography: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
This thesis assesses landslide susceptibility using data from LiDAR DEMs, land cover, and soil surveys. Data were assessed quantitatively through Bayesian logistic regression within a geographic information system (GIS) and statistical software to produce a landslide susceptibility map. The study area exhibits moderate relief where bluffs along the Missouri River valley gradually recede into rolling loess-mantled hills further to the south and southeast in Knox County. The six factors used to determine susceptibility to landslides are: land cover, parent material, slope aspect, slope curvature slope degree, and soil series. My findings show an increase in slope is the most significant …

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) as part of its mission to protect human health and the environment has developed a Brownfields Economic Redevelopment Initiative designed to empower States, communities and other stakeholders in economic development to work collaboratively to in a timely manner to prevent, assess, safely clean up and sustainably reuse brownfields. In order to effectively carry out the mission of the Brownfields Program, all ten regions share in the same goal of redeveloping brownfields. In this project we explore correlations between median household income and Brownfields funding (i.e., Phase I/Phase II assessments and clean-up grants). …

Data
The 2017 Tidal Marsh Inventory update for Henrico County, Virginia was generated using on-screen digitizing techniques in the most recent version of ArcGIS® - ArcMap while viewing conditions observed in the most recent imagery from the Virginia Base Mapping Program (VBMP). Dominant plant community types were primarily determined during field surveys from shallow-draft boats moving along the shoreline. Land-based surveys were performed in some locations. One shapefile is developed that portrays tidal marsh areas represented as polygons. A metadata file accompanies the shapefile to define attribute accuracy, data development, and any use restrictions that pertain to the data.

Geothermal Play Fairway Analysis Of The Snake River Plain: Phase 2, Lee M. Liberty
Geothermal Play Fairway Analysis Of The Snake River Plain: Phase 2, Lee M. Liberty
CGISS Publications and Presentations
Play Fairway Analysis (PFA) is a methodology adapted from the petroleum industry that integrates data at the regional or basin scale to define favorable plays for exploration in a systematic fashion. Phase 2 of our Play Fairway Analysis of the Western Snake River Plain (WSRP) province in southern Idaho had three primary goals: first, to fill data gaps in critical areas in order to better define potential prospects, second, to integrate these data into new thermal and structural models, and finally, to infer the location of potential resources and drilling targets that could be validated during Phase 3. Prospects in …
