Mineral Chemistry, Whole-Rock Geochemistry And Petrology Of Eocene I-Type Shoshonitic Plutons In The Gölköy Area (Ordu, Ne Turkey), İrfan Temi̇zel, Emel Abdi̇oğlu Yazar, Mehmet Arslan, Abdullah Kaygusuz, Zafer Aslan Dec 2018

Mineral Chemistry, Whole-Rock Geochemistry And Petrology Of Eocene I-Type Shoshonitic Plutons In The Gölköy Area (Ordu, Ne Turkey), İrfan Temi̇zel, Emel Abdi̇oğlu Yazar, Mehmet Arslan, Abdullah Kaygusuz, Zafer Aslan

Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration

The Eocene intermediate to felsic plutons are widespread in varying sizes and compositions throughout the Eastern Pontides Orogenic Belt in NE Turkey. Of these, two monzonitic bodies (namely the Eriko Tepe and Göl Tepe Plutons) in the Gölköy (Ordu) area, extend nearly in the orientation of NW-SE and E-W and were emplaced into the Upper Cretaceous and/or Eocene volcanic and sedimentary rocks. Petrographically, the studied monzonitic plutons are compositionally fine to medium grained monzonite, monzodiorite and subordinate quartz-monzonite. They consist of plagioclase (An35-67), K-feldspar (Or61-96), quartz, clinopyroxene (Wo28-49En35-51Fs10-25), biotite (Mg#: …

Petrography, Mineral Chemıstry And Crystallizatıon Conditions Of Cenozoic Plutonic Rocks Located To The North Of Bayburt (Eastern Pontıdes, Turkey), Abdullah Kaygusuz, Cem Yucel, Mehmet Arslan, Ferkan Sipahi, Irfan Temizel, Gokhan Cakmak, Z. Samet Guluglu Dec 2018

Petrography, Mineral Chemıstry And Crystallizatıon Conditions Of Cenozoic Plutonic Rocks Located To The North Of Bayburt (Eastern Pontıdes, Turkey), Abdullah Kaygusuz, Cem Yucel, Mehmet Arslan, Ferkan Sipahi, Irfan Temizel, Gokhan Cakmak, Z. Samet Guluglu

Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration

The Eastern Pontides comprises of many intrusive bodies varying in composition, size and age from Paleozoic to Cenozoic. Those of especially Cenozoic aged ones are commonly observed in the southern part while are rarely exposed in the northern part of the Eastern Pontides. In this study, the petrographical and mineral chemistry properties of Çiçekli, Somarova, Sorkunlu, Şaşurluk, Aydıntepe, Kemerlikdağı and Pelitli plutons located to the north of Bayburt area are determined, and the crystallization conditions of the studied bodies were estimated by means of thermobarometer calculations. The studied plutons extend mostly NE-SW directions and are approximately ellipse in shapes. The …

Evolution Of Noble Gas And Water Isotopes Along The Regional Groundwater Flow Path Of The Konya Closed Basin, Turkey, N. Nur Ozyurt, C. Serdar Bayari Nov 2018

Evolution Of Noble Gas And Water Isotopes Along The Regional Groundwater Flow Path Of The Konya Closed Basin, Turkey, N. Nur Ozyurt, C. Serdar Bayari

International Journal of Speleology

Noble gas and water isotope compositions of regional groundwater were investigated along two transects in the Konya Closed Basin (KCB) of central Turkey. According to the 3He/4He versus Ne/He plot of samples, crust (up to 86%) and mantle (up to 26%) appear to be the primary and secondary sources of dissolved He in groundwater, respectively. After the beginning of both transects where the flow domain is confined, both 3He and 4He accumulate steadily in groundwater. Thereafter, the intermediate recharge from the surface in the unconfined part of regional flow system disrupts the steady accumulation trend …

Mineral Records Of The Pyroxenites Formed Within Harzburgites (Ulaş, Sivas, Turkey): Implications On Petrogenesis And Tectonic Setting, Özgür Bi̇li̇ci̇, Hasan Kolayli Jan 2018

Mineral Records Of The Pyroxenites Formed Within Harzburgites (Ulaş, Sivas, Turkey): Implications On Petrogenesis And Tectonic Setting, Özgür Bi̇li̇ci̇, Hasan Kolayli

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

In this article, the petrological processes of the clinopyroxenite dykes and host peridotites occurring in Ulaş District (Sivas, mid-Anatolia, Turkey) are discussed. The new geochemical data from major minerals in the clinopyroxenite dykes and host harzburgites revealed differences to the supra-subduction zone (SSZ)-type pyroxenites and peridotites. In particular, the NiO content of olivines in the host harzburgites showed the signature of the mantle, whereas rare olivines of the clinopyroxenites had a NiO content and Fo number that were inferior to those of mantle peridotites. The high Mg-number of clinopyroxenes in the clinopyroxenites was likely associated with the partial remelting of …

An Analysis Of Centennial Wind Power Targets Of Turkey, Egemen Sulukan Jan 2018

An Analysis Of Centennial Wind Power Targets Of Turkey, Egemen Sulukan

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Wind power has become one of the cost-effective options for improving the energy mix, while the wind farm installations reach higher shares by new capacity additions in Turkey, similar to many other countries, in order to support the sustainable development targets. Various methodologies are implemented and applied for planning and optimizing energy systems of countries, taking into consideration the energy, economy, and ecology aspects as a whole. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the implications of "2023 energy targets" policy in terms of wind power. A futuristic scenario was tailored and applied to a comprehensive energy model for …

Chemical Composition And Suitability Of Some Turkish Thermal Muds As Peloids, Muazzez Çeli̇k Karakaya, Necati̇ Karakaya Jan 2018

Chemical Composition And Suitability Of Some Turkish Thermal Muds As Peloids, Muazzez Çeli̇k Karakaya, Necati̇ Karakaya

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Thermal muds have been used in many spas for the treatment of different diseases as well as to clean and beautify the skin and in different forms such as mud baths, masks, and cataplasms. Mineralogical and chemical compositions and the possible toxicity of the peloids were investigated and compared with some limits to determine whether they have any health benefits and potential applications for pelotherapeutic treatments. The studied peloid samples were collected from 19 spas in different parts of Turkey and they were classified as neutral to slightly alkaline, with a high electrical conductivity value that had a high chlorine …
