A Monte Carlo Study Of The Effects Of Variability And Outliers On The Linear Correlation Coefficient, Hussein Yousif Eledum Dec 2017

A Monte Carlo Study Of The Effects Of Variability And Outliers On The Linear Correlation Coefficient, Hussein Yousif Eledum

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

Monte Carlo simulations are used to investigate the effect of two factors, the amount of variability and an outlier, on the size of the Pearson correlation coefficient. Some simulation algorithms are developed, and two theorems for increasing or decreasing the amount of variability are suggested.

Multivariate Rank Outlyingness And Correlation Effects, Olusola Samuel Makinde May 2017

Multivariate Rank Outlyingness And Correlation Effects, Olusola Samuel Makinde

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

The effect of correlation on multivariate rank outlyingness, a result of deviation of multivariate rank functions from property of spherical symmetry, is examined. Possible affine invariant versions of this multivariate rank are surveyed, and outlyingness of affine invariant and non-invariant spatial rank functions under general affine transformation are compared.

Control Charts For Mean For Non-Normally Correlated Data, J. R. Singh, Ab Latif Dar May 2017

Control Charts For Mean For Non-Normally Correlated Data, J. R. Singh, Ab Latif Dar

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

Traditionally, quality control methodology is based on the assumption that serially-generated data are independent and normally distributed. On the basis of these assumptions the operating characteristic (OC) function of the control chart is derived after setting the control limits. But in practice, many of the basic industrial variables do not satisfy both the assumptions and hence one may doubt the validity of the inferences drawn from the control charts. In this paper the power of the control chart for the mean is examined when both the assumptions of independence and normality are not tenable. The OC function is calculated and …

On The Independence Of Statistical Randomness Tests Included In The Nist Test Suite, Fati̇h Sulak, Muhi̇ddi̇n Uğuz, Onur Koçak, Ali̇ Doğanaksoy Jan 2017

On The Independence Of Statistical Randomness Tests Included In The Nist Test Suite, Fati̇h Sulak, Muhi̇ddi̇n Uğuz, Onur Koçak, Ali̇ Doğanaksoy

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Random numbers and random sequences are used to produce vital parts of cryptographic algorithms such as encryption keys and therefore the generation and evaluation of random sequences in terms of randomness are vital. Test suites consisting of a number of statistical randomness tests are used to detect the nonrandom characteristics of the sequences. Construction of a test suite is not an easy task. On one hand, the coverage of a suite should be wide; that is, it should compare the sequence under consideration from many different points of view with true random sequences. On the other hand, an overpopulated suite …

Higher-Resolution Biostratigraphy For The Kinta Limestone And An Implication For Continuous Sedimentation In The Paleo-Tethys, Western Belt Of Peninsular Malaysia, Haylay Tsegab Gebretsadik, Chow Weng Sum, Gatovsky A.Yuriy, Aaron W. Hunter, Jasmi Ab Talib, Solomon Kassa Jan 2017

Hunter, Jasmi Ab Talib, Solomon Kassa

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The paleogeography of the juxtaposed Southeast Asian terranes, derived from the northeastern margins of Gondwana during the Carboniferous to Triassic, resulted in complex basin evolution with massive carbonate deposition on the margins of the Paleo-Tethys. Due to the inherited structural and tectonothermal complexities, discovery of diagnostic microfossils from these carbonates has been problematic. This is particularly the case for the Kinta Limestone, a massive Paleozoic carbonate succession that covers most of the Kinta Valley in the central part of the Western Belt of Peninsular Malaysia. Owing to the complex structural and igneous events, as well as extensive diagenetic alterations, establishing …

Mutual Correlation Of Nist Statistical Randomness Tests And Comparison Of Their Sensitivities On Transformed Sequences, Ali̇ Doğanaksoy, Fati̇h Sulak, Muhi̇ddi̇n Uğuz, Okan Şeker, Zi̇ya Akcengi̇z Jan 2017

Mutual Correlation Of Nist Statistical Randomness Tests And Comparison Of Their Sensitivities On Transformed Sequences, Ali̇ Doğanaksoy, Fati̇h Sulak, Muhi̇ddi̇n Uğuz, Okan Şeker, Zi̇ya Akcengi̇z

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Random sequences are widely used in many cryptographic applications and hence their generation is one of the main research areas in cryptography. Statistical randomness tests are introduced to detect the weaknesses or nonrandom characteristics that a sequence under consideration may have. In the literature, there exist various statistical randomness tests and test suites, defined as a collection of tests. An efficient test suite should consist of a number of uncorrelated statistical tests each of which measures randomness from another point of view. `Being uncorrelated' is not a well-defined or well-understood concept in the literature. In this work, we apply Pearson's …
