On The Classification Of Almost Null Rings, Ryszard Andruszkiewicz, Karol Pryszczepko

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

An almost null ring is a ring $R$ in which for all $a,b\in R$, $a^3=0$, $Ma^2=0$ for some square-free integer $M$ that depends on $a$ and $ab= ka^{2}=l b^{2}$ for some integers $k,l$. This paper is devoted to the classification of the almost null rings.

Arithmetical Rank Of The Edge Ideals Of Some N-Cyclic Graphs With A Common Edge, Guangjun Zhu, Feng Shi, Yan Gu

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we present some lower bounds and upper bounds on the arithmetical rank of the edge ideals of some n-cyclic graphs with a common edge. For some special n-cyclic graphs with a common edge, we prove that the arithmetical rank equals the projective dimension of the corresponding quotient ring.

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Karakoçan-Yoğunağaç (Elazığ) and Mazgirt-Dedebağ (Tunceli) travertines, which are related to thermal springs, are situated on the right-lateral strike-slip Karakoçan Fault Zone (KFZ) and left-lateral strike-slip Pamuklu Fault Zone (PFZ) in eastern Anatolia. The surface area of the travertines varies from m2 to km2. Morphologically, the travertines are classified as ridge, banded, and terrace types due to deposition in different ways, in the releasing/restraining bends of the KFZ and PFZ and on the segments of faults. The banded travertines were dated by U-series, and an age of 160,000 ± 76 years was determined in only one sample from the Mazgirt-Dedebağ …

The Case Of The Carbonatite-Like Dyke Of The Madenska River Complex At The Kriva Lakavica Section In The Republic Of Macedonia: Oxygen And Carbon Isotopic Constraints, Matej Dolenec, Todor Serafimovski, Nina Daneu, Tadej Dolenec, Nastja Rogan Smuc, Petra Vrhovnik, Sonja Lojen

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The oxygen and carbon isotope compositions of carbonate samples from the carbonatite-like dyke of the Madenska River complex at the Kriva Lakavica section, samples of calcite skarns from the Damjan Fe-ore deposit and the Sasa Pb-Zn ore deposit, and samples of marbles from the Pohorje Mountains were analyzed to provide critical evidence in favor of the magmatic or sedimentary origin of this carbonatite-like dyke. We suggest that the carbonatite-like dyke is not a "normal" carbonatite, but instead represents melted carbonates, which can be associated with an unexposed, deep-seated, causative magmatic body. This dyke has a fluidal texture and carries xenoliths …

The Importance Of Supersaturated Silica Deposition For Base-Metalau-Ag Mineralisation In Western Turkey, Gülcan Bozkaya, David A. Banks Jan 2015

The Importance Of Supersaturated Silica Deposition For Base-Metalau-Ag Mineralisation In Western Turkey, Gülcan Bozkaya, David A. Banks

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

In the Arapuçandere LS-IS epithermal deposit in western Turkey, either well crystallised euhedral quartz or milky amorphous silica occurrences are associated with the precious and base-metal mineralisation. This study has determined the relative importance of the processes precipitating both of these in relation to the deposition of the ore. Analysis by LA-ICPMS of euhedral quartz and amorphous silica show that the latter is associated with much higher metal concentrations and suggests that the process responsible is more important for deposition of ore in the deposit. Mineralisation at Kumarlar and Koru may be similar. Slow cooling precipitates euhedral quartz and some …

The Effects Of Bedding Directions On Abrasion Resistance In Travertine Rocks, Mehmedi̇ Vehbi̇ Gökçe Jan 2015

The Effects Of Bedding Directions On Abrasion Resistance In Travertine Rocks, Mehmedi̇ Vehbi̇ Gökçe

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Travertine rocks are currently used in various architectural applications, cut perpendicular or parallel to bedding planes. Travertine stones used without enough attention paid to the cutting directions easily wear off in locations where pedestrian traffic is heavy and can cause some unexpected complications in practice. This study was conducted to elucidate the effects of cutting directions on the abrasion resistance of travertine stones. Travertine blocks were cut perpendicular and parallel to bedding planes, and their abrasion resistances were determined by means of the Böhme abrasion loss test. Travertine blocks were chosen from 6 different quarries whose products are currently in …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Lower-middle Devonian iron-bearing successions were studied along 2 measured stratigraphic sections in the Çamdağ region of NW Anatolia. Ironstones in the upper part of the Fındıklı Formation in Kabalakdere are characterized by alternating red and green mudstones and sandstones at the bottom, followed by a series of dolomite, dolomitic limestone with oolitic ironstones, and chamositic mudstones at the top. Conodonts from these carbonates indicate the delta-pesavis zones of the late Lochkovian. The 12- to 45-m-thick Ferizli Formation unconformably overlies the Fındıklı Formation with a quartz-arenite succession at the bottom. The formation comprises alternating red, iron-rich limestones and dolomitic limestones, where …

Discovery Of Hiatus In Feixianguan Formation And Its Geological Implications, Sichuan Basin, Sw China, Yang Yu, Xiucheng Tan, Peiyuan Chen, Huiting Yang, Teng Ma, Jian Cao, Xiuju Jin

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The lower Triassic Feixianguan Formation of the Sichuan Basin is an important exploration target for marine natural gas in China. It is widely believed that a certain interval from Fei 1 to Fei 4 displays conformable contacts rather than long-term wide-ranging hiatus. However, 2 denudational interfaces on the top of Member Fei 1 and Fei 2 respectively were found in the present work, which relies on the delicate core observation of 4 cored wells in Puguang Gas Field, microscopic observations of microsamples in terms of thin sections, scanning electron microscopy and cathodoluminescence, and geochemical testing. Evidence indicates that on the …

Evidence Of An Active Glacier In The Munzur Mountains, Eastern Turkey, Ci̇han Bayrakdar, Zeynel Çilğin, Mehmet Fati̇h Döker, Ergi̇n Canpolat

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Munzur Mountains were subjected to extensive and repeated glaciations during the Pleistocene. The presence of an active glacier in the region was not verified until this study. Here, we used remote sensing methods to identify and locate the glaciers and verified the activity of the largest glacier in the field. We named this glacier the Şahintaşı Glacier and studied it using 3D ArcGIS spatial analyses overlaid on high-resolution Geographical Information Systems (GIS) satellite images. The most current version of LANDSAT 8 (acquired on 14.08.2013) supplied the remote sensing information. We used principal component analysis on the data. The precise …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Eskişehir Fault Zone is one of the major neotectonic structures of Turkey, extending from İnegöl (Bursa) to Cihanbeyli (Konya). The fault zone presents a considerable seismic risk for the city of Eskişehir but the exact locations of active segments and the source of the major seismic event, the 1956 earthquake (M = 6.5) that occurred in the instrumental period (from 1900 to 2013), have been debated in recent literature. The structural data obtained from field studies indicate an approximately N60W-trending main strand of the right lateral strike-slip Eskişehir Fault Zone. This trend corresponds to the en echelon bends on …

Optimization Of Grid Connected Micro-Grid Consisting Of Pv/Fc/Uc With Considered Frequency Control, Hamid Hasanzadehfard, Masoud Moghaddas-Tafreshi, Sayed Mehdi Hakimi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, ultracapacitors are used as short-term storages for the frequency control of grid-connected microgrid that consists of photovoltaic panels, fuel cells, and the battery packs as long-term storages. Fuel cells and battery packs have delays in load tracking; therefore, ultracapacitors are used to compensate for the sudden power fluctuations in the microgrid that occur due to the output power uncertainty of the PV arrays and the loads required in the microgrid, as well as the sudden interruption of the main grid. The microgrid consists of interruptible and uninterruptible loads. When the total produced power in the microgrid, in …

Simulation Of Locating Buried Objects Via Fringe Pattern-Based Measurements In An Optical Fiber Sensor-Integrated Continuous-Wave Ground-Penetrating Radar System, Asaf Behzat Şahi̇n, Hati̇ce Gonca Bulur

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A new ground-penetrating radar system that can determine the depth and position of a buried metal cylinder, which is the combination of an optical fiber sensor (OFS), continuous-wave transmitter, and optical communication link, is proposed and simulated in the MATLAB and Optiwave program packages. Employing an optical sensor instead of a standard radio frequency (RF) receiver offers the advantage of preventing electromagnetic interference along the sensor's main unit cable and lower amplification noise. In this paper, the electric field distribution at the OFS due to reflections from the soil surface and the buried object is obtained mathematically using Green's function. …

A Novel Efficient Model For The Power Flow Analysis Of Power Systems, Amir Safdarian, Mahmud Fotuhi Firuzabad, Farrokh Aminifar

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The overall system status calculated by power flow analysis is the most basic information used for all decisions taken by power system operators and planners. While conventional AC power flow solutions are computationally tractable, approximate DC models are employed in many applications, such as optimal power flow studies and unit commitment problems, mainly due to the linear nature of DC models. These models do not provide any information on the reactive power and voltage magnitude quantities and occasionally inaccurate results of the active power values. This paper presents an efficient power flow approach compromising both the conflicting aspects of speed …

Sensitivity Analysis And Optimum Design For The Stator Of Synchronous Reluctance Machines Using The Coupled Finite Element And Taguchi Methods, Hossein Azizi, Abolfazl Vahedi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper presents an investigation of the effect and optimization of stator geometry design parameters on the performance of synchronous reluctance machines (SynRMs). The level of importance of the stator design variable on the characteristic of the SynRM is determined using both the Taguchi method and a parametric analysis. An optimum design parameter combination is obtained using sensitivity analysis along with signal-to-noise ratio results. The 2-dimensional finite element model (FEM) of a SynRM is used to perform a sensitivity analysis and construct a Taguchi design of the experiment. The FEM simulation results confirm that the performance of the SynRM can …

In this paper, in order to examine the effect of respiration on heart rate variability (HRV), signal processing analyses were performed between the signal received from the periodic movement of the chest of respiration and the pulse plethysmograph (PPS) signal, providing the calculation of both the time and frequency behavior of HRV and also including pulse rate information at the same time. Respiration is used as the comparison parameter in both healthy subjects and in hypertensive patients, not only with the time and frequency components of the HRV, but also with the galvanic skin resistance simultaneously taken with body temperature …

Enhancing Sliding Mode Control With Proportional Feedback And Feedforward: An Experimental Investigation On Speed Sensorless Control Of Pm Dc Motor Drives, Mehmet Dal Jan 2015

Enhancing Sliding Mode Control With Proportional Feedback And Feedforward: An Experimental Investigation On Speed Sensorless Control Of Pm Dc Motor Drives, Mehmet Dal

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper investigates the enhancement of sliding mode control (SMC) with the combined use of feedforward torque compensation and proportional error feedback control. The proposed enhancement is adapted to the control of permanent magnet (PM) DC motor drives by synthesis of the equivalent control equation augmented as proportional feedback and feedforward terms. A novel sliding function, introduced by utilizing the estimated load torque and the estimated rotor current, is examined and compared with another known sliding function obtained by nonideal differentiation of the estimated rotor speed. The significance of the proposed enhancements to SMC consists of the elimination of disturbance, …

Designing And Implementing A Reliable Thermal Monitoring System Based On The 1-Wire Protocol On Fpga For A Leo Satellite, Reza Omidi Gosheblagh, Karim Mohammadi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Thermal control and monitoring is one of the most important factors in the design of satellite systems. An appropriate thermal design should make sure that the satellite's sensitive components remain in their nominated range, even under the vacuum condition of outer space. To achieve this purpose, a reliable and stable monitoring system is required. This paper proposes a monitoring system based on the 1-wire protocol, which provides the reliability requirements in the sensor networking and bus controller sections. In the networking section, we outline some practical topologies and discuss on their complexity and reliability. Despite the fact that the point-to-point …

Discrete-Time Modeling Of Hamiltonian Systems, Yaprak Yalçin, Leyla Gören Sümer, Salman Kurtulan Jan 2015

Discrete-Time Modeling Of Hamiltonian Systems, Yaprak Yalçin, Leyla Gören Sümer, Salman Kurtulan

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The problem of discrete-time modeling of the lumped-parameter Hamiltonian systems is considered for engineering applications. Hence, a novel gradient-based method is presented, exploiting the discrete gradient concept and the forward Euler discretization under the assumption of the continuous Hamiltonian model is known. It is proven that the proposed discrete-time model structure defines a symplectic difference system and has the energy-conserving property under some conditions. In order to provide alternate discrete-time models, 3 different discrete-gradient definitions are given. The proposed models are convenient for the design of sampled-data controllers. All of the models are considered for several well-known Hamiltonian systems and …

Short-Term Load Forecasting Using Mixed Lazy Learning Method, Seyed-Masoud Barakati, Ali Akbar Gharaveisi, Seyed-Mohammad Reza Rafiei Jan 2015

Short-Term Load Forecasting Using Mixed Lazy Learning Method, Seyed-Masoud Barakati, Ali Akbar Gharaveisi, Seyed-Mohammad Reza Rafiei

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A novel short-term load forecasting method based on the lazy learning (LL) algorithm is proposed. The LL algorithm's input data are electrical load information, daily electricity consumption patterns, and temperatures in a specified region. In order to verify the ability of the proposed method, a load forecasting problem, using the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland Interconnection electrical load data, is carried out. Three LL models are proposed: constant, linear, and mixed models. First, the performances of the 3 developed models are compared using the root mean square error technique. The best technique is then selected to compete with the state-of-the-art neural network (NN) …

Temporal Logic Extension For Self-Referring, Nonexistence, Multiple Recurrence, And Anterior Past Events, Şadi̇ Evren Şeker Jan 2015

Temporal Logic Extension For Self-Referring, Nonexistence, Multiple Recurrence, And Anterior Past Events, Şadi̇ Evren Şeker

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This study focuses on the possible extensions of current temporal logics. In this study, 4 extensions are proposed: self-referring events, nonexisting events, multiple recurrence of events, and an improvement on anterior past events. Each of these extensions is on a different level of temporal logics. The main motivation behind the extensions is the temporal analysis of Turkish. Similar to temporal logic studies built on other natural languages, like French, Ukrainian, Italian, Korean, English, or Romanian, this is the first time that the Turkish language has been deeply questioned in the sense of computable temporal logic using the view of a …

Mersenne Twister-Based Rfid Authentication Protocol, Mehmet Hi̇lal Özcanhan, Gökhan Dalkiliç Jan 2015

This work presents an ultra-lightweight, cryptographic, mutual authentication protocol for radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags. The proposed scheme is more secure than its predecessors. The vulnerabilities of previous schemes based on triangular functions and rotation have been demonstrated in traditional and rotational cryptanalysis. In this paper, we summarize the successful attacks on previous schemes and demonstrate further attacks on 3 recent ultra-lightweight protocols. Next, we present a proposal that resists all of the known passive attacks. The proposal obeys the properties and rules of addition-rotation-XOR with constants systems. The proposed scheme inserts parts of advanced encryption standard S-boxes into the temperings …
