The University of Minnesota Morris is well known for its commitment to sustainability. As a part of this commitment, the UMN Morris Office of Sustainability tracks and analyzes campus energy production, consumption and efficiency and summarizes this information as a carbon footprint. A carbon footprint combines all available greenhouse gas emissions data attributed to the institution from three categories: direct emissions from institution-owned or operated processes (Scope 1), indirect emissions related to the purchase of utilities (Scope 2), and indirect emissions from sources not owned by the institution but associated with its function (Scope 3).
