Synthesis, Characterization, And Metal Extraction Studies Of A New Macrobicyclic Ligand, Hali̇l Zeki̇ Gök, Yaşar Gök, Esra Eker

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

This article describes the synthesis, characterization, and metal ion binding properties of a new macrobicyclic ligand. Solvent extraction experiments were performed in order to determine the extraction behavior of new macrobicyclic ligand towards selected metal cations. Selective extraction of heavy metals and precious metals is highly demanded due to their toxicity and commercial importance. Based on our experimental results, macrobicyclic ligand 3 demonstrated remarkable affinity towards the Ag^+ ion by 96.7% and 96.9% to the dichloromethane and chloroform phases, respectively. The extraction experiments with macrobicyclic ligand 3 for the Ag^+ ion were repeated at different temperatures to calculate thermodynamic parameters. …

It is noteworthy that 1,2-bis(5-(3,3-didecyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-thieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxepin-6-yl)-2-methylthiophen-3-yl)cyclopent-1-ene can be efficiently switched between open and closed states by light in both solution and in the solid poly(methyl metacrylate) (PMMA) matrix. It is also found that the emission of this novel compound can be switched on and off upon irradiation.

Kinetics Study And Influence Of Water-Soluble Polymer On The Electrodeposition Of Iron From A Citrate-Chloride Electrolyte On The Basis Of Fe(Iii), Vyacheslav Protsenko, Felix Danilov

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The kinetics of the iron electrodeposition reaction from a plating bath containing trivalent iron ions is investigated in the present work. The electrochemical reaction is stated to proceed via the formation of relatively stable intermediates: Fe(II) ions. Only a part of the total amount of Fe(II) ions formed at the first stage of Fe(III) discharge is reduced further, producing metal iron. The effect of polyhexamethyleneguanidine hydrochloride (with an average molecular weight of 1000) on the iron deposition is ascertained. The presence of polymer additive in the iron electrolyte appreciably affects the rate of iron deposition, while the polymer additive does …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

For the first time, removal of oxygen atoms from allylic hydroperoxide functionality and reintroduction to the double bond was achieved using catalytic OsO$_{4}$ and chiral cinchona alkaloid derivatives in an acetone-water mixture to give corresponding chiral 1/2,3-triol with an enantioselectivity up to 99% ee. The hydroperoxide group was used as both a co-oxidant and a source of hydroxyl groups. This protocol is thought to have potential to provide opportunities for chiral synthesis of 1/2,3-triols from corresponding allylic hydroperoxides in the absence of co-oxidant in one stage for the first time in the literature.

This review is focused on new developments reported during the last 3 years concerning the catalytic performances of in situ formed or preformed NHC--Pd(II) complexes (NHC: $N$-heterocyclic carbene) for cross-coupling reactions such as Heck--Mizoraki (often shortened to the Heck reaction), Kumada, Negishi, Suzuki--Miyaura (often shortened to the Suzuki reaction), Sonogashira and Hiyama couplings, and the Buchwald--Hartwig aminations, which are extremely powerful in the formation of C--C and C--heteroatom bonds. Due to the great number of publications and limited space here, we made a special attempt to compile the relevant data in tables, which we hope will serve as a guide …

Two $N$-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) palladium complexes of formula [PdBr$_{2}$(NHC)(pyridine)] in which the carbenic ring is flanked by sterically crowded cavitand substituents were prepared from appropriate imidazolium salts bearing either two resorcinarene or a combination of resorcinarene and calixarene fragments. Both complexes displayed high stability and good activities in the cross-coupling of aryl bromides with phenyl boronic acid. One of the imidazolium salts was characterised by an X-ray diffraction study.

A series of new aminophosphines [Ph$_{2}$PHN-C$_{6}$H$_{4}$-R, where R = $o$-SH (4a), $m$-SH (4b) or $p$-SH (4c)] were readily synthesized from cheap starting materials by the phosphorylation reaction of $o$, $m$, and $p$-aminothiophenols with Ph$_{2}$PCl in the presence of triethyl amine. The new compounds were characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy and microanalysis. In addition, aminophosphine ligands-palladium systems were investigated as precatalysts in C-C coupling reactions. Compounds 4b and 4c were proved to be excellent catalysts for Suzuki and Heck cross-coupling reactions.

Pfam Catalyzed Enantioselective Diethylzinc Addition To Imines, Özdemi̇r Doğan, Eda Çağli

Chiral amines are important starting materials for the synthesis of biologically important compounds. Enantioselective addition of dialkylzinc reagents to imines is a reliable method for the synthesis of these compounds. Different chiral catalysts were developed and used for this method. Phosphorous based PFAM catalysts were tried for the first time in the enantioselective synthesis of amines by reacting diethylzinc with N-sulfonyl imines and N-diphenylphosphinoyl imines. Chiral amines were isolated with moderate to acceptable yields and enantioselectivities.
