Statistically Principled Deep Learning For Sar Image Segmentation, Cassandra Goldberg
Statistically Principled Deep Learning For Sar Image Segmentation, Cassandra Goldberg
Honors Projects
This project explores novel approaches for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image segmentation that integrate established statistical properties of SAR into deep learning models. First, Perlin Noise and Generalized Gamma distribution sampling methods were utilized to generate a synthetic dataset that effectively captures the statistical attributes of SAR data. Subsequently, deep learning segmentation architectures were developed that utilize average pooling and 1x1 convolutions to perform statistical moment computations. Finally, supervised and unsupervised disparity-based losses were incorporated into model training. The experimental outcomes yielded promising results: the synthetic dataset effectively trained deep learning models for real SAR data segmentation, the statistically-informed architectures …
Analytical Study To Determine Significant Causes Of Increased No-Hitters In The 2021 Major League Baseball Season, Joel Robison
Analytical Study To Determine Significant Causes Of Increased No-Hitters In The 2021 Major League Baseball Season, Joel Robison
Honors Projects
Why were there so many no-hitters in the 2021 MLB season? This project focuses on possible significant causes to the record-breaking number of no-hitters pitched in the 2021 Major League Baseball season. Specifically, this project takes an analytical look at the recent trends in launch angles and spin rates to determine if there are any significant causes to the increased number of no-hitters in baseball. The random nature and unpredictability of the game of baseball make it almost impossible to come to any solid conclusions.
Investigating Major League Baseball Pitchers And Quality Of Contact Through Cluster Analysis, Charlie Marcou
Investigating Major League Baseball Pitchers And Quality Of Contact Through Cluster Analysis, Charlie Marcou
Honors Projects
This paper investigates the quality of contact that a pitcher allows. Not much is currently known about quality of contact, but if factors determining quality of contact could be determined it could assist teams in identifying and developing pitching talent. There are many problems that come with investigating the control pitchers have over contact allowed, but one area to investigate is whether quality of contact is a repeatable skill. Furthermore, if it is a repeatable skill, then it is important to investigate what kind of benefit controlling contact allowed brings a pitcher. Along with this, groundball and flyball tendencies, and …
Market Research On Student Concert Attendance At Bgsu's College Of Musical Arts, Mary Solomon
Market Research On Student Concert Attendance At Bgsu's College Of Musical Arts, Mary Solomon
Honors Projects
Bowling Green State University boasts a well established College of Musical Arts which holds concerts performed by esteemed faculty, prestigious guest artists, and students. The school hosts these events in Kobacker Hall and Bryan Recital Hall which can accommodate up to 800 and 250 audience members, respectively. However, performances in Kobacker hall only fill one- fourth of the 800 seats, on average. Why is this so? This project aims to investigate the factors that influence students’ decisions to attend concerts at the College of Musical Arts (CMA). By methodology of survey research and statistical analysis, this project will look into …
A Statistical Study Of Student Success In The Bgsu Honors College, Sarah Hercules
A Statistical Study Of Student Success In The Bgsu Honors College, Sarah Hercules
Honors Projects
Higher education has long tried to find the best measures to predict student success. Different colleges often have different guidelines, requiring different criteria to be evaluated. The BGSU Honors College has struggled with retention and recruitment of underrepresented students with their current admission criteria. This analysis studies different measures of student success such as BGSU GPA and number of completed Honors credits for high-achieving BGSU students who enrolled from Fall 2013 through Fall 2016 to find the best predictors of student success through regression analysis. Throughout this paper, the impact of ethnicity, gender, the college of a student’s program, high …
