Many-Objective Evolutionary Algorithms: Objective Reduction, Decomposition And Multi-Modality., Monalisa Pal Dr. Jan 2022

Many-Objective Evolutionary Algorithms: Objective Reduction, Decomposition And Multi-Modality., Monalisa Pal Dr.

Doctoral Theses

Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) for Many-Objective Optimization (MaOO) problems are challenging in nature due to the requirement of large population size, difficulty in maintaining the selection pressure towards global optima and inability of accurate visualization of high-dimensional Pareto-optimal Set (in decision space) and Pareto-Front (in objective space). The quality of the estimated set of Pareto-optimal solutions, resulting from the EAs for MaOO problems, is assessed in terms of proximity to the true surface (convergence) and uniformity and coverage of the estimated set over the true surface (diversity). With more number of objectives, the challenges become more profound. Thus, better strategies have …

Three Essays On The Impact Of Global Warming In India., Eshita Gupta Dr. Feb 2015

Three Essays On The Impact Of Global Warming In India., Eshita Gupta Dr.

Doctoral Theses

This dissertation consists of three chapters. The Örst chapter studies the impact of climate change on electricity demand in Delhi using daily data on electricity demand and apparent temperature for the period 2000-09. It estimates a semi-parametric variable coe¢ - cient model that allows for a non-linear relationship between temperature and electricity to shift over time, a feature that is necessary to incorporate given the rapid economic growth in India. As evident from previous studies, electricity demand is a U-shaped function of temperature. Three results from our analysis have important implications for electricityclimate policy: Firstly, the rising part of the …

Distributed Algorithms For Initialization And Topology Control In Wireless Ad Hoc Networks., Subhasis Bhattacharjee Dr. Jul 2011

Distributed Algorithms For Initialization And Topology Control In Wireless Ad Hoc Networks., Subhasis Bhattacharjee Dr.

Doctoral Theses

Wireless ad hoc networking is an upcoming communication technology that makes exchange of information possible without any pre-existing infrastructure. Over the last decade it has grabbed tremendous interest in the research community due to its easy deployability and high flexibility, with numerous applications to social, industrial and personal uses. In this thesis, we designed effcient light weight distributed algorithms based on minimal local information to resolve the problems related to the initialization and topology configuration of wireless ad hoc networks with special emphasis on optimal utilization of limited resources. Once the ad hoc nodes with in-built radio transceivers are deployed …

Contributions To Random Energy Models., Nabin Kumar Jana Dr. Oct 2008

Contributions To Random Energy Models., Nabin Kumar Jana Dr.

Doctoral Theses

In this introductory chapter, we begin with a brief description of spin glasses in section 1. We are not physicists. The purpose of this section is to trace the history of the models. Section 2 gives a brief summary of the thesis and section 3 recalls certain known facts which will be used later in the thesis.Origin of the problem The models considered in this thesis have their origin in spin glass theory. Roughly, spin glass is a glassy state in a spin system or a disordered material exhibiting high magnetic frustration. The origin of this behavior can be either …

Optimal Short Run Electricity Supply India:Rationing And Pricing Optionsa., Uma Vishvanathan Dr. Feb 1993

Optimal Short Run Electricity Supply India:Rationing And Pricing Optionsa., Uma Vishvanathan Dr.

Doctoral Theses

The supply of electricity to consumers in India is governed by the Electricity Supply Act (1948). Under the Act, electricity can be supplied from two sources: (i) licensees - that is, a person or body licensed under the Indian Electricity Act 1910 to supply energy, or a person who has obtained sanction under Section 28 of that Act to engage in the business of supplying energy. (ii) The State Electricity Boards constituted under various State Governments and charged with the general duty of promoting the coordinated development of the generation, supply and distribution of electricity within the State in the …

Some Aspects Of Multi Source Satellite Image Processing., L. Lalitha Dr. Feb 1992

Some Aspects Of Multi Source Satellite Image Processing., L. Lalitha Dr.

Doctoral Theses

The observation of a target by a device plaoed at some distance from it is cal.led remote sensing as ngainst in situ sensing where the sensor is kept in contact with the target. Usually physical emanations such as the electr omagnetic radiation from the target s observed by the sensing device. Sensors mounted on aircraft or satallite platforms measure the amount of energy reflected from or emitted by the earth's surface. Sensors scan the ground below a nd to either side of the satellite platform and as the platform noves forward, an image of the earths surface is formed.A satellite …
