Video sequence resolution enhancement became a popular research area during the last two decades. Although traditional super-resolution techniques have been successful in dealing with image sequences, many constraints such as global translation between frames, have to be imposed to obtain good performance. In this paper, we present a new wavelet-based nonlocal-means (WNLM) framework to bypass the motion estimation stage. It can handle complex motion changes between frames. Compared with the nonlocal-means (NLM) super-resolution framework, the proposed method provides better result in terms of PSNR and faster processing.

Gene length and organization are important attributes of genomics. With a large amount of sequence data becoming available, statistical analyses can be applied to this data and will offer beneficial output to research communities. Previous work in this field has focused on protein length and its coding region, while we are also investigating the non-coding regions, as well as trying to uncover any potential correlation that may exist between the regions. Analysis on the Arabidopsis thaliana found there was a strong correlation between the coding sequence length and the 3 UTR region, conditional on the 5 UTR ratios. These results …

Two new platinum complexes, trans-chlorodiammine[N-(2-aminoethyl)-4-[4-(N-methylimidazole-2-carboxamido)-N-methylpyrrole-2-carboxamido]-N-methylpyrrole-2-carboxamide]platinum(II) chloride (DJ1953-2) and trans-chlorodiammine[N-(6-aminohexyl)-4-[4-(N-methylimidazole-2-carboxamido)-N-methylpyrrole-2-carboxamido]-N-methylpyrrole-2-carboxamide]platinum(II) chloride (DJ1953-6) have been synthesized as proof-of-concept molecules in the design of agents that can specifically target genes in DNA. Coordinate covalent binding to DNA was demonstrated with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. Using circular dichroism, these complexes were found to show greater DNA binding affinity to the target sequence: d(CATTGTCAGAC)2, than toward either d(GTCTGTCAATG)2, which contains different flanking sequences, or d(CATTGAGAGAC)2, which contains a double base pair mismatch sequence. DJ1953-2 unwinds the DNA helix by around 13°, but neither metal complex significantly affects the DNA melting temperature. Unlike simple DNA minor …

We use an array given in H. Kharaghani, Arrays for orthogonal designs, J. Combin. Designs, 8 (2000), 166-173, to obtain infinite families of 8-variable Kharaghani type orthogonal designs, OD(8t; hi, kl, kl, kl, k2, k2, k2, k2), where k1 and k2 must be the sum of two squares. In particular we obtain infinite families of 8-variable Kharaghani type orthogonal designs, OD(8t; k, k, k, k, k, k, k, k). For odd t orthogonal designs of order ≡ 8( mod 16) can have at most eight variables.

In this paper we give a general theorem which can be used to multiply the length of amicable sequences keeping the amicability property and the type of the sequences. As a consequence we have that if there exist two, four or eight amicable sequences of length m and type (al, a2), (al, a2, a3, a4) or (al, a2, …, as) then there exist amicable sequences of length ℓ ≡ 0 (mod m) and of the same type. We also present a theorem that produces a set of 2v amicable sequences from a set of v (not necessary amicable) sequences and …

Abstract: A pair of matrices X and Y are said to be amicable if XYT = YXT. In this paper, if X and Y are orthogonal designs, group generated or circulant on the group G, these will be denoted 2—SAS(n; ul, u2; G). Recently Kharaghani, in "Arrays for orthogonal designs", J. Combin. Designs, 8 (2000), 166-173, extended this concept to an amicable set, {Ai}2n, i=1, of 2n circulant matrices, which satisfy ∑(Aσ(2i-1)AT σ(2i-1) - Aσ(2i) AT (2i-1) = 0. In this paper we concentrate on constructing short amicable sets, which satisfy the same equation but contain four, called short, or …

Recently K. T. Arasu (personal communication) and Yoseph Strassler, in his PhD thesis, The Classification of Circulant Weighing Matrices of Weight 9, Bar-Ilan University, Ramat-Gan, 1997, have intensively studied circulant weighing matrices, or single sequences, with weight 9. They show many cases are non-existent. Here we give details of a search for two sequences with zero periodic autocorrelation and types (1,9), (1,16) and (4,9). We find some new cases but also many cases where the known necessary conditions are not sufficient. We instance a number of occasions when the known necessary conditions are not sufficient for the existence of weighing …

The book, Orthogonal Designs: Quadratic Forms and Hadamard Matrices, Marcel Dekker, New York-Basel, 1979, by A. V. Geramita and Jennifer Seberry, has now been out of print for almost two decades. Many of the results on weighing matrices presented therein have been greatly improved. Here we review the theory, restate some results which are no longer available and expand on the existence of many new weighing matrices and orthogonal designs of order 2n where n is odd. We give a number of new constructions for orthogonal designs. Then using number theory, linear algebra and computer searches we find new weighing …
