A problem suggested by Professor Gamow deals with the relationship between the transverse mass and the gravitational mass: A steamroller of mass m moves horizontally, in the +x direction, with velocity v, in a region of space in which there is a gravitational field intensity g vertically downward. Recent technical publications and popular literature have not fully established the present geographical range of the northern pike. A survey by the writer in 1955 showed that 26 states and Canadian provinces had resident northern pike populations. During the past 5 years pike have been introduced into several other states, thus extending the range. Pike are already established in most of the northern states and are now being released into waters of the south and west.

The examples usually given as instances of topological spaces that have T₁-separation but not T₂-separation (Hausdorff) also have the property that some compact subset is not closed. This with the classic result concerning closedness of compact subsets of a Hausdorff space suggests the question of the equivalence of Hausdorff separation and the condition that the class of compact subsets be a subclass of the class of the closed subsets of a given space. The Sacramento-Wilcox Game Management Area was acquired by the Game Commission in 1948 with funds apportioned to the state through the federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition.

The Area serves primarily as a waterfowl refuge, and public hunting area. A game farm, which holds pheasant stock through the winter months is also located on the property.

SUMMARY

Good stable soil structure is valuable for promoting the growth of plants and micro-organisms by permitting enhanced aeration and water penetration and by decreasing erosion under some conditions.

Micro-organisms influence water percolation through the soil. They may plug up soil pores with byproducts of growth and reduce water percolation. On the other hand, if a soil containing a large amount of microbial products is stirred and allowed to dry, then the percolation may be high.

Micro-organisms are involved in stabilizing soil structure by their products of decomposition and their cellular binding material, such as mycelia. Microorganisms differ greatly in …
