The new benzimidazolium derivative (SM-1) salt with ion exchange from the (SM-0) was fabricated and characterized by protonnuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR), carbon-nuclear magnetic resonance (13C-NMR), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), electrospray ionization (EIS-MS), thermal analysis (TG), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), for electrolytes (liquid or dried) in the DSSC charge transportation mechanism. Also, the influence of ion exchange from chloride to iodine in the synthesized electrolytes, compared to other electrolytes (conventional or commercial), was investigated about DSSC performance efficiency. $N$-Acylazole Mediated Stereoselective And Regioselective Synthesis Of $N$-Substituted Azole Acrylonitriles, Osman Aydin, Şule Kökten, Hakan Ünver, İlhami̇ Çeli̇k

Regio- and stereoselective synthesis of $N$-substituted azole acrylonitriles has been achieved smoothly in $N,N$-dimethylformamide (DMF) in the presence of potassium carbonate (K$_{2}$CO$_{3})$ as a base catalyst. $N$-Substituted azole acrylonitriles were obtained in moderate to good yields (39%-87%) with a one-pot reaction between readily available $N$-acetylazoles and Baylis-Hillman nitriles. The structural determinations were accomplished by NOESY $^{1}$H NMR and X-ray crystallography.

In this study, novel 2-substituted benzimidazoles molecules having triazole, thiadiazole, and oxadiazole rings were synthesized and were evaluated by anticancer, antioxidant/oxidant status, genotoxicity, and antiangiogenesis assays. Anticancer activity of the compounds was determined by MTT (0.5, 5, and 50 $\mu $g/mL) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release assays against human prostate and breast cancer cells. Oxidative status of cells was elicited by total oxidative stress and total antioxidant capacity methods. Chick chorioallantoic membrane assay was used to evaluate the antiangiogenic activity. Genotoxicity was evaluated by the sister chromatid exchange (SCE) and micronucleus (MN) tests in lymphocyte cultured human blood. Our results …

Synthesis And Characterization Of New Thiophene--Benzimidazole-Based Electrochromes, Emi̇ne Gül Cansu Ergün

In the present study, two new donor--acceptor--donor-type molecules were synthesized and the electro-optical properties of the resulting monomers and their corresponding polymers were investigated. Thiophene was selected as the donor unit and cycloheptyl- and cyclooctyl- substituted benzimidazoles were used as the acceptor units. The synthesized monomers and their electrochemically obtained polymers were characterized using cyclic voltammetry and UV-Vis spectrometry. The optical band gap values of the polymers were 1.62 eV and the polymer films changed color to gray upon oxidation, while they were brick red in their neutral states. $N$-Substituted methyl 2-((azolyl)methyl)-3-arylacrylates were synthesized stereo- and regioselectively with one-pot reaction between Baylis--Hillman acetates and a suitable acylazole in the presence of K$_{2}$CO$_{3}$ as a base catalyst. The targeted $N$-substituted azole acrylates were efficiently obtained in good yields (39%-89%).

In this study, a series of benzimidazole-piperidine derivatives were synthesized with the objective of developing potent antinociceptive agents. Some 2-(4-substituted-phenyl)-1-[2-(piperidin-1-yl)ethyl]-1$H$-benzimidazole derivatives were obtained by microwave-supported reaction of an appropriate 2-(4-substituted-phenyl)-1$H$-benzimidazole with 2-(piperidine-1-yl)ethyl chloride. The chemical structures of the compounds were elucidated by FT-IR, $^{1}$H NMR, $^{13}$C NMR, and HRMS spectral data. Antinociceptive activity was assessed by conducting hot-plate, paw-pressure, and formalin tests. Morphine (5 mg/kg, i.p) was used as a reference drug. Among the tested compounds 2a-2d and 2f-2h (10 mg/kg) increased the maximum possible effect (MPE) % values calculated for the hot-plate and paw-pressure tests and decreased the paw …

Some novel 2-(substitutedbenzylthio)-5-((2-(4-substitutedphenyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)methyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazoles (5--12) and 2-(2-(4-chlorophenyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)-N'-(arylmethylene)acetohydrazide derivatives (13--22) were prepared and their in vitro antioxidant properties were investigated by determination of rat liver microsomal NADPH-dependent inhibition of lipid peroxidation (LP) levels and microsomal ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) activity. Compound 18 was found to be the most active compound with 100% inhibition on LP level and 92% inhibition on EROD. Compounds 4b, 17, and 19 showed the strongest inhibitory effect (97%) on EROD. A series of platinum(II) complexes of the type [PtL_2Cl_2] 1, [PtL_2I_2] 2, [PtL_2(oxalato)] 3, and [PtL_2(malonato)] 4 (L= 2-phenylbenzimidazole ligands as ``non-leaving groups'') were synthesized and characterized by their elemental analyses, IR, ^1H NMR, and ESI-LC/MS. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of the synthesized compounds has been evaluated by the macrodilution method against gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Enterococcus faecalis; gram-negative bacteria, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumonia; and yeast like fungi, such as Candida glabrata and Candida parapsilosis. Four platinum(II) and 4 platinum(IV) complexes with the structures [PtL_2Cl_2], [PtL_2I_2], [PtL_2Cl_4], and [PtL_2Cl_2(OH)_2] (L = 5(6)-non/orchloro-substituted-2-hydroxymethylbenzimidazole ligands as ``non-leaving groups''), respectively, were synthesized and characterized by their elemental analyses, and IR and ^1H-NMR spectra. In vitro cytotoxic activities of the platinum(II) and platinum(IV) complexes were tested against the human MCF-7 (breast cancer) and HeLa (cervix cancer) cell lines using the cell culture method. In general, the platinum(II) complexes were more active than the corresponding platinum(IV) complexes. Some benzimidazole derivatives were synthesized and their in vitro antifungal activities were tested against Candida albicans, Candida glabrata and Candida krusei. Compounds 6 and 9 possessed activity comparable to fluconazole against C. albicans with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 12.5 \mu g/mL.

A novel anhydrous proton conducting polymer electrolyte based on polystyrene sulfonic acid, PSSA and benzimidazole (BnIm) was synthesized. The PSSA-BnIm interactions were studied by FT-IR. The thermal properties of the blends were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The proton conductivities of these materials were measured by AC impedance technique. The conductivities of these materials increase with increasing BnIm content and temperature and maximum conductivity was found to be approximately 5 \times 10^{-4} S/cm at 150 °C.

Proton conducting properties of benzimidazole (BnIm) doped poly(vinylphosphonic acid) (PVPA) were studied. The doping ratio, x, which is the number of moles of BnIm per mole of polymer repeat unit, varied from 0.5 to 2. The samples were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and impedance spectroscopy. The IR study indicates the protonation of heterocyclic units from the "free nitrogen" side. The proton conductivity and thermal stability of the blends increase with x. Maximum conductivity of PVPA x BnIm blends is approximately 10^{-3} S/cm at 150 °C.
