Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In this study, the synthesis of a novel 1,2-dinaphthyl ethanediol substituted phthalonitrile (2) together with tetra-substituted zinc(II) phthalocyanine (Pc) (3) and cobalt(II) Pc (4) bearing 1,2-dinaphthyl ethanediol at peripheral positions was described. The aggregation behaviors of metallophthalocyanines 3and 4 in solution were investigated by carrying out Beer-Lambert experiments at different concentrations. In addition, the catalytic activity of new cobalt(II) Pc 4 was investigated for benzyl alcohol oxidation. Benzyl alcohol was converted to benzaldehyde using cobalt(II) Pc 4 as a catalyst by a conversion of 99% with selectivity of 100% at room temperature in 1 h. Several spectroscopic techniques such as …

Synthesis And Some Optical Results Of Long Chain Substituted Phthalocyanines, İbrahi̇m Özçeşmeci̇, İdri̇s Sorar

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Four metallo (zinc, copper, vanadyl, and indium) phthalocyanine derivatives bearing four aliphatic (hexylthio) groups were prepared from corresponding phthalonitrile compounds. The metallophthalocyanines were characterized with ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and mass and elemental analyses techniques. Aggregation properties of metallophthalocyanines in solution were studied in varied concentration ranges. Thin films of metallophthalocyanines were obtained by spin coating technique. Optical measurements showed that transmittance values of metallophthalocyanine thin films obviously changed with respect to the metal ion in the phthalocyanines. Transmittance spectra of the phthalocyanines synthesized using different metal ions showed a variation …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

As a starting material, 7-tert-butyldibenzo [b,e] [1,4] dioxine-2,3-dicarbonitrile was prepared by the reac- tion of 4-tert-butylcatechol with 4,5-dichlorophthalonitrile. Metallophthalocyanine complexes 4-7 were obtained by cyclotetramerization of 7-tert-butyldibenzo [b,e] [1,4] dioxine-2,3-dicarbonitrile. All compounds were characterized by elemental analysis and other spectroscopic methods (IR, UV/Vis, and $^{1}$H NMR). Phthalocyanine compounds remained nonaggregated in tetrahydrofuran at the studied concentration ranges. Metallophthalocyanines 4-7 were tested for their antioxidant activities. The antioxidant activity processes included evaluation of radical-scavenging activity, chelat- ing activity, and reducing power. These compounds were compared to standard antioxidant ascorbic acid. The electronic data of the new compounds were obtained by computational …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

New thermally stable metallo-phthalocyanines bearing dibenzoxanthenes as highly organo-solubilizing aromatic hydrocarbon substituents were successfully prepared by cyclotetramerization of corresponding phthalonitriles with anhydrous metal salts [Zn(CH$_{3}$COO)$_{2}$ and NiCl$_{2}$] in the presence of a catalytic amount of DBU in 2-(dimethylamino) ethanol. All of these phthalocyanines are soluble in some organic solvents such as DMF, DMSO, THF, CH$_{2}$Cl$_{2}$, and CHCl$_{3}$. Then we successfully prepared the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/ZnPc/Al nanocomposite films by incorporating Al nanoparticles into a transparent PMMA/ZnPc matrix. The structure and morphology of nanocomposite films were studied using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The optical absorption spectra of PMMA/ZnPc/Al nanocomposite films …

Synthesis And Properties Of Novel Polymeric Metal-Free And Metallophthalocyanines Containing Peripherally Long 1,2-Bis[(3-Oxapropyl)Oxa]Benzene Derivatives, Ahmet Bi̇lgi̇n, Durmuş Yanmaz, Çi̇ğdem Yağci

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

New polymeric phthalocyanine moieties (M = 2H, Zn, Ni, Cu, and Co) were synthesized via polytetracyclomerization reaction of o-bis[3-(3,4-dicyanophenoxy)propyloxy]benzene (3), which can be obtained by the reaction of 4-nitrophthalonitrile with o-bis[(3-hydroxypropyl)oxy]benzene. Aggregation and disaggregation behavior of the polymeric phthalocyanine (5) was studied with some alkali and earth alkali metal cations. Measured intrinsic viscosities of the polymeric phthalocyanines exhibited a substantial decreasing tendency with dilution of the solution. Thermogravimetric analysis was performed under air by using DSC and DTG/TGA techniques and indicated that these polymers have good thermal stability. AC and DC electrical conductivities of the polymeric phthalocyanines were investigated in …

Microwave-Assisted Synthesis Of Novel Nonperipherally Substituted Metallophthalocyanines Bearing (7-(Trifluoromethyl)Quinolin-4-Yl)Oxy Groups, Di̇dem Evren, Hacer Yasemi̇n Yeni̇lmez, Ayfer Kalkan Burat

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The synthesis, characterization, and spectroscopic properties of novel nonperipherally tetrasubstituted metallophthalocyanines (zinc, cobalt, copper, manganese, and indium) bearing 4 (7-(trifluoromethyl)quinolin-4-yl)oxy units has been reported. The new compounds have been characterized using UV-Vis, IR, ^1H NMR, ^{13}C NMR, ^{19}F NMR, and mass spectroscopic data. The absorption properties of these new complexes were compared to those of peripherally substituted phthalocyanine derivatives. Based on the structural, spectroscopic, and absorption studies, it was found that the substitution effect altered the electronic structures significantly. The results provide useful information to understand the effect of peripheral or nonperipheral substitution on the properties of this macrocyclic ring. …

Asymptotics Of The Ruin Probability With Claims Modeled By \\Alpha-Stable Aggregated Ar(1) Process, Karina Perilioglu, Donata Puplinskaite

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We study the asymptotics of the ruin probability in a discrete time risk insurance model with stationary claims following the aggregated heavy-tailed AR(1) process discussed in Puplinskaite and Surgailis (2010). The present work is based on the general characterization of the ruin probability with claims modeled by stationary \alpha-stable process in Mikosch and Samorodnitsky (2000). We prove that for the aggregated AR(1) claims' process, the ruin probability decays with exponent \alpha(1-H), where H \in [1/\alpha, 1) is the asymptotic self-similarity index of the claim process, 1< \alpha < 2. This result agrees with the decay rate of the ruin probability with claims modeled by increments of linear fractional motion in Mikosch and Samorodnitsky (2000) and also with other characterizations of long memory of the aggregated AR(1) process with infinite variance in Puplinskaite and Surgailis (2010).
