Toxic Element Contamination In Waters From The Massive Sulfide Deposits And Wastes Around Giresun, Turkey, Necati̇ Karakaya, Muazzez Çeli̇k Karakaya

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

This study assessed the quality of water polluted with mine drainage waters, some of which is used for drinking and agriculture, in the urban areas of the Giresun region, Turkey. A total of 40 water samples were collected from the main rivers and stream, spring, and drainage waters. All samples were analyzed for physical and chemical parameters. The tectonically controlled massive sulfide deposits hosted in the Maastrichtian-Eocene magmatic rocks are either active or have been abandoned. The main ore mineral assemblages are chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, and pyrite. The oxidation of the sulfide minerals in the deposits and wastes has caused …

Bicoelia Corticifera, A New Inozoid Sponge From The Upper Triassic (Norian) Reef Boulders Of The Central Taurids (Southern Turkey), Baba Senowbari-Daryan, Michael Link

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Upper Triassic Norian reef boulders, exposed in a locality in the Central Taurids, southern Turkey, yielded a high number of hypercalcified sponges, including Sphinctozoans, Inozoans, Spongiomorphids, and Chaetetids. The reef boulders are exposed near the fountain Tavuk Çeşme, located at the road leading from the town of Aksu to Yenişarbademli. Geologically this locality belongs to the Anamas Akseki Autochthon. In this paper a new inozoan sponge, Bicoelia corticifera nov. sp., is described from Tavuk Çeşme. It is a cylindrical and unbranched sponge, found in several thin sections. The sponge is characterized by 2 axial spongocoels, and the sponge wall is …

History, Development, And A New Concept Of Phthalocyanines In Turkey, Özer Bekaroğlu Jan 2014

History, Development, And A New Concept Of Phthalocyanines In Turkey, Özer Bekaroğlu

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

This paper reviews the history of phthalocyanines in Turkey. Phthalocyanines are chemical compounds that were accidently discovered nearly a century ago. The relevant research and articles have grown dramatically in Turkey since our first paper on them containing four [15]crown[5] published in 1986. The ball-type phthalocyanines were produced and published as a new concept in phthalocyanine chemistry for the first time by our group in Turkey in 2006. Unfortunately, with the exception of our work on this subject, almost no papers have been published in Turkey or in other countries since then. We strongly urge scientists to consider working on …
