The hexane and dichloromethane extracts, obtained by re-extraction of the methanol extract of Salvia fruticosa Mill., afforded 7 diterpenoids (carnosol, carnosic acid, carnosic acid 12-methyl ether, rosmadial, isorosmanol, ferruginol, and manool), 4 triterpenoids (\alpha -amyryltetracosanoate, oleanolic acid, ursolic acid, and erythrodiol), a steroid (3-acetylsitosterol), and a flavone (salvigenin). The galls (apples) of the collected plant were separately extracted with hexane to afford fatty acids composed mainly of oleic acid (29\%), palmitoleic acid (29\%), and stearic acid (23.20\%), which exhibited high anticholinesterase activity, particularly against BChE. New Diterpenoids From The Aerial Parts Of Salvia Pilifera, Ufuk Kolak

Three new diterpenoids, piliferol (2\alpha, 20-dihydroxy-12-oxo- abieta-9(11),13-dien-8,20-ether) (1), salvipiliferol (2\alpha, 10\beta -dihydroxy-12-oxo-norabieta-9(11),13-dien) (2), and piliferalactone (2\alpha ,8-dihydroxy-12-oxo-abieta-9(11),13-dien-20-oic acid-8,20-lactone) (3), together with 7 known compounds, ursolic acid, oleanolic acid, betulinic acid, \alpha -amyrin, lupeol, \beta -sitosterol, and pectolinarigenin, have been isolated from the aerial parts of an endemic Salvia species, S. pilifera. Their structures were elucidated by spectral (UV, IR, 1D-, and 2D-NMR, and HRMS) methods.

From the aerial parts of Euphorbia helioscopia L. (Euphorbiaceae), a jatrophane diterpene ester, 5,11-jatrophadiene-3-benzoyloxy-7,9,14-tri-acetyloxy-15-ol and 2 lupane derivatives, lup-20(29)-ene-3-acetate and lup-20(29)-ene-3-palmitate, together with common triterpenoids of Euphorbiaceae, 24-methylene cycloartanol, 24-methylenecycloart-3-one, cycloartanol, and stigmast-4-ene-3-one were isolated. The last compounds, lup-20(29)-ene-3-acetate, 24-methylene cycloartanol, 24-methylenecycloart-3-one, cycloartanol, and stigmast-4-ene-3-one, were isolated for the first time from E. helioscopia}. The fractions and the isolates were tested for their vasodepressor effects using Wistar Albino rats, and 5,11-jatrophadiene-3-benzoyloxy-7,9,14-tri-acetyloxy- 15-ol, lup-20(29)-ene-3-acetate, and stigmast-4-ene-3-one were found to possess relevant activity. From the aerial parts of Galium tortumense Ehrend & Schönb.-Tem., 8 iridoid glycosides, a flavonol glycoside, a oleanane-type triterpene acid, an ursan-type triterpene acid and a sterol were isolated. The structures of the compounds were elucidated by high field 1D and 2D NMR and EIMS spectroscopies.

From the roots of Salvia blepharochlaena Hedge and Hub. Mor. 4 triterpenoids, 4 steroids, 6 diterpenoids, and an aromatic ester were isolated. The structures of these compounds were established by spectroscopic methods. Formosanolide was isolated for the first time from the genus Salvia.
