In Situ Preparation Of Hetero-Polymers/Clay Nanocomposites By Cuaac Click Chemistry, Mehmet Ati̇lla Taşdelen, Çağatay Altinkök

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A series of polymer/clay nanocomposites containing mechanistically two different polymers, poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(epsilon caprolactone) (PCL), were prepared by simultaneous copper(I)-catalyzed alkyne-azide cycloaddition click reactions. Both clickable polymers, PEG-Alkyne and PCL-Alkyne, were simultaneously clicked on to azide-functional montmorillonite (MMT-N3) nanoclay to get corresponding PEG-PCL/MMT nanocomposites. The chemical structures of the resulting nanocomposites were verified by following azide and silicone-oxygen bands using FT-IR and characteristic bands of PEG and PCL segments using 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The combined XRD and TEM analysis confirmed that all PEG-PCL/MMT nanocomposites had partially exfoliated/ intercalated morphologies. In addition, the increase of MMT-N3 loading not only improved …

Anticorrosion Coating For Magnesium Alloys: Electrospun Superhydrophobic Polystyrene/Sio$_{2}$ Composite Fibers, Nesri̇n Horzum Polat, Özlem Kap, Ami̇r Farzaneh

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Superhydrophobic nanocomposite coatings for magnesium surfaces with remarkable corrosion resistance were fabricated by electrospinning in the presence of fluorosilane-functionalized silica (SiO$_{2})$ nanoparticles. The effects of surface-modified silica (mod-SiO$_{2})$ nanoparticles on the superhydrophobicity and corrosion resistance of polystyrene (PS)/mod-SiO$_{2}$ fiber coatings were evaluated. The incorporation of the SiO$_{2}$ nanoparticles endows PS fibers with rough surfaces exhibiting a water contact angle (WCA) of 165$^{\circ}$. The surface wettability, corrosion resistance, and their relation to the inorganic content in the PS fibers and the contact angle of the composite coatings were explored. Analysis of the corrosion results confirmed that the PS/mod-SiO$_{2}$ coating protected the …

Fabrication Of Multilayer Graphene Oxide-Reinforced High Density Polyethylene Nanocomposites With Enhanced Thermal And Mechanical Properties Via Thermokinetic Mixing, Burcu Saner Okan

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

High density polyethylene (HDPE) was compounded with thermally exfoliated graphene oxide (TEGO) by thermokinetic mixing in a short time. High shear rates during the compounding process provided high exfoliation and proper dispersion of graphene layers in the polymer matrix. Different TEGO/polymer ratios were used to get efficient melt mixing. Structural analysis by spectroscopic techniques confirmed the exfoliation of TEGO sheets and the coverage of their surfaces by HDPE chains. Furthermore, homogeneous dispersion of graphene sheets in the matrix led to the enhancement in the mechanical and thermal properties of HPDE-based nanocomposites. Especially stress concentration sites were significantly reduced by preventing …

A novel adsorbent Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$/Ni/Ni$_{x}$B nanocomposite was synthesized and used for the adsorption of copper. Moreover, natural adsorbents carob and grape seeds were used for this purpose. The surfaces and the elemental compositions of the adsorbents were characterized by SEM-EDX. The zero point charges of pH of Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$/Ni/Ni$_{x}$B nanocomposite, carob, and grape seeds were found as 8.4, 6.0, and 5.6, respectively. The Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin--Radushkevich isotherm models were used for the identification of the mechanism of the adsorption. The adsorptions of Cu(II) on the three adsorbents were well fitted to the Langmuir isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacities obtained from the …
