New Tetrazolic Azo Dyes Linked To (Thio)Barbiturate And Electron-Rich Aromatics As Potential Antimicrobial Agents, Nader Noroozi Pesyan, Davoud Soleimani, Nima Hosseini Jazani

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A series of new tetrazolic azo dyes based on (thio)barbiturate and electron-rich aromatics were synthesized in excellent yield. The electron-donor and tetrazole ring moieties were linked by a $p$-phenylazo bridge and the structural characterizations were achieved by FT IR, $^{1}$H and $^{13}$C NMR, and UV-visible spectrometry. The antibacterial activity of the synthesized compounds was tested against gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial strains, namely \textit{Acinetobacter calcoaceticus} (ATCC23055), \textit{Escherichia coli} (ATCC2592), \textit{Pseudomonas aeruginosa} (ATCC27853), and \textit{Staphylococcus aureus} (ATCC25923). As a result, potential antimicrobial effects were seen for some of the synthesized compounds.

Water-Soluble Phthalocyanines Containing Azo Dye; Microwave-Assisted Synthesis And Photochemical Properties Of Znpcs, Ci̇han Kantar, Emrah Ataci, Selami̇ Şaşmaz

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Novel water-soluble metallophthalocyanines (M: Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) containing azo dye were characterized. The structures were confirmed by IR, UV/vis, ^1H NMR, ^{13}C NMR, mass spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. Photochemical properties and aggregation behavior of zinc phthalocyanines were investigated. Singlet oxygen quantum yields of the zinc phthalocyanines (2d, 3d, 5d, and 6d) were 0.8, 0.57, 0.71, and 0.46, respectively.

A new, substituted 2-[(E)-{[4-(benzyloxy)phenyl]imino} methyl]-4-[(E)-(4-nitrophenyl)diazenyl]phenol azo-azomethine ligand (mbH) was synthesized from 2-hydroxy-5-[(4-nitrophenyl)diazenyl]benzaldehyde and 4-benzyloxyanilinehydrochloride in ethyl alcohol solution. These mononuclear Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) complexes of the ligand were prepared and their structures were proposed by elemental analysis, and infrared and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy; the proton NMR spectrum of the mbH ligand was also recorded. The azo-azomethine ligand, mbH, behaves as a bidentate ligand coordinating through the nitrogen atom of the azomethine (--CH=N--) and the oxygen atom of the phenolic group. Elemental analyses indicated that the metal:ligand ratio was 1:2 in the metal chelates. Powder X-ray diffraction parameters suggested …

Antimicrobial Properties And Dna Interactions Studies Of 3-Hetarylazoquinoline-2,4-Diol Compounds, Fatma Öztürk, Leyla Açik, İzzet Şener, Fi̇kret Karci, Emi̇ne Kiliç

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the antimicrobial effects of 3-hetarylazoquinoline-2,4-diols (19), having substituted or unsubstituted thiazole, benzothiazole, benzimidazole, triazole, isoxazole, and thiadiazole moieties at the 3-position, on bacterial and yeast strains. In addition, compounds and DNA interaction with pUC18 plasmid DNA were studied. The biological effects of these molecules were compared with potential antibiotics ampicillin,~chloramfenicol (for bacteria), and ketoconozole (for yeast). According to the results, all compounds except 8 have mild to moderate activity against some of the bacterial strains tested, and none of the compounds have activity against the fungi C. tropicalis and C. albicans. …

Synthesis And Spectrophotometric Determination Of Acidity Constants Of 2,3,4,6'-Tetrahydroxy-3'-Sulfoazobenzene And Their Use In Determination Of Aluminum, Tufan Güray, Cemi̇l Öğreti̇r, Tevfi̇k Gedi̇kbey, Abu Ali̇ Hüseyi̇nli̇

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A novel azo derivative, 2,3,4,6'-tetrahydroxy-3'-sulfoazobenzene (THSA), was synthesized by using pyrogallol. The acid dissociation constants, or K_a values, of THSA were determined by the UV-visible spectroscopic technique. The protonation and deprotonation behaviors of the title molecule were studied from the super basic to the super acid region (i.e. 10 N NaOH to 98% H_2SO_4), including the pH region. A selective and sensitive UV-visible spectrophotometric method was devised for determination of aluminum by using this ligand. The developed method was successfully applied to an alunite mineral and to pharmaceutical preparations for the determination of aluminum.
