Cover Crop Biomass Production And Water Use In The Central Great Plains, David C. Nielsen, Drew J. Lyon, Gary W. Hergert, Robert K. Higgins, Johnathon D. Holman

David C. Nielsen

The water-limited environment of the semiarid Central Great Plains may not produce enough cover crop biomass to generate benefits associated with cover crop use in more humid regions. There have been reports that cover crops grown in mixtures produce more biomass with greater water use efficiency than single-species plantings. This study was conducted to determine differences in cover crop biomass production, water use efficiency, and residue cover between a mixture and single-species plantings. The study was conducted at Akron, CO, and Sidney, NE, during the 2012 and 2013 growing seasons under both rainfed and irrigated conditions. Water use, biomass, and …

Preliminary Geophysical Characterization Of The Karst Within A Transverse Glade In The Atlantic Coastal Ridge, Miami-Dade County Florida, Usa, Lee J. Florea, Jeff Ransom, Dallas Hazelton Jun 2015

Preliminary Geophysical Characterization Of The Karst Within A Transverse Glade In The Atlantic Coastal Ridge, Miami-Dade County Florida, Usa, Lee J. Florea, Jeff Ransom, Dallas Hazelton

Lee J Florea, PhD, P.G.

In this paper we present results of two DC Electrical Resistivity Tomography surveys at Deering Estate at Cutler in the Atlantic Coastal Ridge of Miami-Dade County, Florida. This County Natural Area encompasses Deering Glade and hosts one of the largest remaining tropical hardwood-hammock ecosystems in the USA. A canal extension, wetland restoration, and pump station recently constructed at Deering Estate by the South Florida Water Management District is designed to re-hydrate Deering Glade to pre-development conditions thus helping to sustain the hammock ecosystem and reverse trends in salt-water intrusion in this portion of the Biscayne aquifer. For these transects, we …

Innovative Research Publications IRP India

The salts of Zinc (Zn), Cadmium (Cd), Lead (Pb), Copper (Cu), are of great toxicological importance and can causes poisoning. Therefore quantitative determination of traces of zinc, cadmium, lead, copper, in blood is very essential. Routinely, inductive coupled plasma, atomic absorption spectrometry, graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry were used for analysis. An attempt has been made to develop new method for simultaneous determination of traces of zinc, cadmium, lead, copper, in blood done by differential-pulse anodic-stripping voltammetry. Blood was processed by wet digestion method using concentrated nitric acid and sulphuric acid. Determination of zinc, cadmium, lead, copper, was made in …

Changes In Heavy Rainstorm Characteristics With Time And Temperature, Barry A. Palynchuk Phd, Yiping Guo Phd

Barry A. Palynchuk PhD

The effects of climate change upon extreme rainfall is evaluated, based upon the identification of individual storms, and the changes in their statistical parameters and distributions. Those changes will be measured based upon historical time spans, and climatic temperature associated with the events. A brief review and comparison with other research is provided.

Glowing Seashells: Diversity Of Fossilized Coloration Patterns On Coral Reef-Associated Cone Snail (Gastropoda: Conidae) Shells From The Neogene Of The Dominican Republic, Jonathan R. Hendricks Apr 2015

Glowing Seashells: Diversity Of Fossilized Coloration Patterns On Coral Reef-Associated Cone Snail (Gastropoda: Conidae) Shells From The Neogene Of The Dominican Republic, Jonathan R. Hendricks

Jonathan R. Hendricks

The biology of modern Conidae (cone snails)—which includes the hyperdiverse genus Conus—has been intensively studied, but the fossil record of the clade remains poorly understood, particularly within an evolutionary framework. Here, ultraviolet light is used to reveal and characterize the original shell coloration patterns of 28 species of cone snails from three Neogene coral reef-associated deposits from the Cibao Valley, northern Dominican Republic. These fossils come from the upper Miocene Cercado Fm. and lower Pliocene Gurabo Fm., and range in age from about 6.6-4.8 Ma. Comparison of the revealed coloration patterns with those of extant species allow the taxa to …

Wykorzystanie Granulometrii Obrazowej W Klasyfikacji Treści Zdjęć Satelitarnych, Przemysław Kupidura Jan 2015

Wykorzystanie Granulometrii Obrazowej W Klasyfikacji Treści Zdjęć Satelitarnych, Przemysław Kupidura

Przemysław Kupidura

This book presents a new method of classifi cation of satellite images, based on utilisation of granulometric analysis of image texture. The theoretical background of the method and its accuracy, depending on different parameters of granulometric processing and input images, is presented. It is compared to other approaches of satellite image classification. The essence of the method relies on the use of granulometric maps, i.e. images containing information about a local texture in every pixel, additionally to spectral data contained in original multispectral images. One of the main advantages of the proposed method is its multiscality, i.e. a possibility to …

Three discoveries I made from visiting the Field Museum of Natural History yesterday on Illinois Day 12/6/2015. Brontosaurus as a dinosaur name can be brought back as existing in Wyoming rather than Apatosaurus' Colorado, 5 vertebrae rather than 3 on Apatosaurus, and larger size are enough to argue for a unique species. Yale Professor Marsh had it right when he saw Brontosaurus as different than Apatosaurus; larger size, different location, different bones should revive the Brontosaurus name. Riggs spoke to soon when speaking against Brontosaurus as a separate name. Second discovery, a new theory of life on Earth origin that …

Application Of Colloidal Gas Aphron Suspensions Produced From Sapindus Mukorossi For Arsenic Removal From Contaminated Soil, Soumyadeep Mukhopadhyay Dr, Sumona Mukherjee Ms, Mohd Ali Hashim Dr, Bhaskar Sen Gupta Dr Jan 2015

Application Of Colloidal Gas Aphron Suspensions Produced From Sapindus Mukorossi For Arsenic Removal From Contaminated Soil, Soumyadeep Mukhopadhyay Dr, Sumona Mukherjee Ms, Mohd Ali Hashim Dr, Bhaskar Sen Gupta Dr

Soumyadeep Mukhopadhyay Dr

Colloidal gas aphron dispersions (CGAs) can be described as a system of microbubbles suspended homogenously in a liquid matrix. This work examines the performance of CGAs in comparison to surfactant solutions for washing low levels of arsenic from an iron rich soil. Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) and saponin, a biodegradable surfactant, obtained from Sapindus mukorossi or soapnut fruit were used for generating CGAs and solutions for soil washing. Column washing experiments were performed in down-flow and up flow modes at a soil pH of 5 and 6 using varying concentration of SDS and soapnut solutions as well as CGAs. Soapnut …

Anomalous Textures In Porphyritic Granite Of Andhra Pradesh (India), Eric R. Force

Eric R Force

Apparently perthitic textures of microcline phenocrysts in this rock are not due to exsolution but to deformation. Microscopic fracture planes show no offset, however, and are restricted to feldspar crystals, i.e. absent in quartz. A hypothesis of depth formation is presented, and possible shock origin discussed.
